Jag newbie with question about fret buzz

I've just bought my first Jaguar (Classic Player Special) and I'm after some advice from you guys

I don't really consider myself a guitarist. I'm a keyboard player, and although I've been playing guitar a while I don't really know that much about them, so I'm sorry if I'm asking daft questions.

Bought the guitar 2nd hand from eBay a few weeks ago. It's in fantastic condition - not a mark on it

It arrived with a set of 10's on it. Plugged in a played for a couple of hours. It sounded bloody great and stayed in tune, no problem. The action was a touch higher than I'm used to, so I took it to the guy who usually does my setups to see if he could lower the action a bit. When I got it back he'd lowered the action quite a bit but I was in fret buzz hell.

I play with 1mm picks and I tend to pick really hard (being a spazzy keyboard player). The low E A D and G strings buzzed like mad. When I put a capo on the 2nd fret (I play a lot of early Smiths stuff) it was even worse. Got him to have another 2 goes at setting it up and although the buzz has gone the action is worse than when I first got the guitar

As I mentioned I'm quite heavy handed. I'm not sure if I should be looking for somebody near me (Sheffield, UK) that has experience in setting up Jag's and leave the 10's on or I should get it set up with 11's (which I've never used before)

I've read that 11's are recommended to reduce fret buzz on the Jaguar, but does that apply to the Classic Player Special as well (as it's slightly different to the standard Jag) ? Would 11's allow me to get a lower action than 10's without the fret buzz ?

Give it a shot. Strings are pretty cheap. Sometimes upping a gauge can reduce buzz.

It may also just need a new nut or the nutslots trimmed, I have the cobain jag and i use the .10-.52 guage and get zero fret buzz unless i have it drop tuned like crazy.

chances are the action is too low. the string needs space to rotate when picked, this means that the strings will be hitting off of other frets causing the buzz.

oh, and it may not actually be fret buzz,

when I first got mine it buzzed a bit, but this was because of some slightly loose parts like the tuners, so check that by taking the strings off and poking the poles of the machine heads, then tighten them if theyre loose. 😀

hello everyone;

i have the cobain jag, i bought it almost 5 months ago brand new. i realized it got dents on the 6 first frets under 5th string. I brought just once for calibration like two months ago... does anyone knows what the possible problem could be?

Is it needs some adjustment on the bridge? fretboard? change strings gauge?

I just bought a used 2018 Jag 60s classic blue lacquer. The guitar is mint but the strings rattle like crazy.

Anyone else with same guitar & problem? What did u to resolve the problem?
