If i ever get around to that mustang and had you do it, thats exactly the color i'd go for, with a lil bit of that burgundy burst underneath it. looks great.

Here are a couple pics with the pickguard material I want to use. The indoor lighting shows the real color a bit better. Nice dark green.

After wetsanding the first clear coat to flatten it a bit before doing more clear, I felt like drawing, so I drew a Green Goblin head in the trem rout.

I am in to the nitro clear coats now. I am guessing six or seven more coats before I can let her sit and dry. 😀

Thanks for all the photos, HNB. They're interesting and helpful. And I'm enjoying your aesthetic sense...love your choice of tort to go with the dark green.

I recently bought a '98 Les Paul Special that had been rebuilt to sell. The guy did a really good job and even lined the cavities with copper. Important for single coils but I'm not sure if your humbuckers need this protection. So I'm curious to see what your plan is for shielding.

BTW, my LPSpecial is TV Yellow nitro. I never much liked the black art-deco pickguard shape on the LP body. So I made a new pickguard of tort shaped like the more graceful LP Jr. pickguard. It looked so good I made a matching truss rod cover and when I got that mounted, wow, the visual integrity just works. Thought that might be a touch you'd like to consider.

Clear coats are all done, so it is in sit and dry mode... my least favorite mode because there is nothing I can do with it but wait. LOL

Hey HNB, I find all your projects you post on the forums incredibly inspiring, especially this one. So much so, in fact, that I have decided to do a very similar mod project on my jag HH special. Instead of put a bigsby on it I'm gonna route it for a traditional trem just like you did and refinish it. Do you have any extra tips on how to do these mods that you haven't mentioned in this thread? Also I remember seeing you give advice to someone a while ago on how to refinish a jagstang in qhich you said to sand the existing finish and spray over the top of it. Would you recommend that technique or would you recommend stripping the finish and starting again like you have on this project? Would be really great to hear what you think.

I think the best finish would come from stripping ad repainting, but many people do lightly sand the original finish and paint over. 😀 You should be good either way really. Both ways work. Make sure to get a good tremolo template so you make the hole the right shape, size and it helps get it in the right place too. Go slow and don't get excited and rush or cut corners. Haste makes dumb mistakes often and ends up costing more money and time to fix. 😀
