Anyone else play one of these?? I was in GC with no intentions of buying anything just ####ing around on a couple of guitars and the guy next to me suggested I try some Mexi Telecaster with "vintage noiseless" pups and a concentric tone pot with that cool 25db midboost on the bottom that he had just bought the day prior. I had two amps with me that I was testing a bunch of different guitars on: a Fender Deluxe Reverb and some sort of Marshall JCM. I was failed to be impressed by any of the guitars I had already tried -- a Modern Player Jaguar w/ P90's, a Blacktop Jaguar w/ Dragsters, an Epiphone Wilshire w/ mini-hums, a Squier Classic Vibe Telecaster, and a Gretsch Electromatic. I guess I am just really really used to my Jag-Stang because none of these guitars appealed to me at all. I didn't care for the feel of the neck on any of them.
When I picked up this Mexi Telecaster it had the sweetest feeling ever. The amp all of the sudden game to life and these guitars sound absolutely unbelievable for $499.99. The back of the headstock does have the "Fender Special Run" sticker so I suppose these won't be around forever. I'm basically like currently depressed over how amazing this guitar felt in my hands and how the Deluxe Reverb was singing and I didn't have the money to take this home with me. The guitar just felt like me and was pretty much wrapping itself up for me haha.
It was a sunburst body with a glossy maple neck, 9.5" radius I presume, and the controls were normal Tele except at the tone pot it is a concentric pot with +25dB active mid-boost that has a battery compartment on the back of the guitar. This "mid-boost" I found out is called the Eric Clapton boost by a bunch of people online and you can purchase it seperately for $69.99 from Musician's Friend.
All in all, the point of this thread is that I highly recommend you try this guitar if given the chance, especially considering the FSR tag on it. It was selling for $499.99 and again, is made in Mexico but feels like a USA.
