I also use 10's and have been suggested by my luthier to increase size due to similar problems. Are you referring open chords played on the first 5 frets? A lot of times I battle with my Jag-Stang as well man. I have occasionally, but rarely, dealt with having my high-E string come off the fret when using open chords. (By open chords, I mean like your classic G... 3-2-0-0-3-3... or your classic D... X-0-0-2-3-2. One of the beauties of the Mustang neck's is the play-ibility of the 7.25" radius and short scale. The 7.25" radius is terrific at taking the shape of your index finger in it's natural state and it is very easy to play bar chords on the Mustang. So my first suggestion is, if it is happening too much, try using bar chords instead of open chords. That is one route.
As far as strings go, as I said, I also use 10-46 strings. I have been told many times that the short scale Fenders with 11's sound more full and also have the tension of a Strat or similar 25.5" scale guitars with 10's on it. So, another suggestion is to try switching to 11's. If you find the 11's are too thick for you, I have also discovered the GHS Strings sells Boomers that are 10.5's. Very unique set, and the same price, but a good middle ground if you want the tension but the 11's are just a little too thick for your preference. Let me know if I can be of any more help.
