New Jag Build

Hi all...

Long time reader, only joined recently to thank everyone with pics. I bought a blacktop jaguar about 6 months ago as a base for a project. I played the japanese Jag, and personally prefer the blacktop neck. Also a bonus was the humbucker routing.... what was not good was the terrible stock pickups... and why fender insist on 250k pots for humbuckers is beyond me.... seriously, i bought my gf a les paul special II (epiphone)... and it came with 500k pots.... but anyway.... as i know i love pictures and the story, happy that i finally get to give back. i played it for 6 months with my amateurish set up just to let everything settle, bought the pickups and booked in for the mods to be done. Always impressed by what some of you guys build... but i just don't have the talent (or the tools)... though i have a cheap soldering station and i'm going to start with a simple overdrive and see how far i get.

this will be my "heavy" guitar, though beyond impressed with the clean tones too.... i get my tele back next week i hope, as its in for a full rebuild 😀

Seymour Duncan Phat Cat (neck)

Bone Nut (cut 11-54's)

500k CTS tone and volume

Neck Shim to increase angle

Awesome! Love it, looks great. Are those the stock control knobs? They're amazing. Although it probably wouldn't work out without way more modification, I always though a Bigsby B-5 would look terrific on a Blacktop or Modern Player Jaguar 😀. This is awesome though, I bet this thing sustains for days with the stop-tail.

EDIT:: By more mods for the Bigsby, I meant really you'd have to buy a Vibramate to make it a really easy ordeal, and then a roller Tune-O-Matic (which are hit or miss), and graphite the #### out of your nut haha.

*edit - yes, stock control knobs... though they are being changed, im getting gold pickguard screws, gold grover locking tuners and gold plated jaguar knobs... should look awesome in about 20 years

this is very much a KISS (keep it simple stupid) grunge machine.... it sustains beautifully as the neck has actually been glued then bolted in... im now saving for a 1965 jazzmaster (bound neck, dot inlay transition)... though this will take me YEARS to save for

Very cool man, your further mod plans sound awesome. Nothing will sustain like a stop-tail and TOM bridge, so I don't doubt this thing sustains ridiculously. Keeping it simple is actually a great idea, a lot of times when people start messing around with more additions like vibrato systems like Bigsby's, you start to realize that sure you now have that feature but you lose a lot of benefits of the guitar in it's simple state. I know from experience in the case of adding a Bigsby, it is hard to find a good roller bridge that has the Bigsby working fluidly, and once you do, you lose way too much sustain in my experience.

Are you saving for a real '65 Jazzy or a reissue? Either way, great guitar!

i'm saving for a real one! i'd like to put away $10,000 (for a pretty nice one) over ne t next 5 years, and maybe pick up a re-issue as well in a few years when they start getting sold off by their original owners as something i wont be scared to take out of the house

my tele is being re-build by the same guy who did the jag..... dirty harry pup's... i'll link to the TDPRI page when i get it back from the luthier

Awesome man, yeah I am huge fan of Telecaster's and would really like to see that. I don't own one so I've never bothered to register over at TDPRI, but that really is a terrific forum for anything guitars, not just Telecasters. That's a good idea to grab a reissue. I went on Fender Japan to see if they still offer brand new Jazzys with blocks and binding and they do; it's the '66 Reissue. Really beautiful instrument. All this talk of Jazzy's and having saw Dino Jr. last night is not good for my obsession with guitars haha.

lol! the guy who rebuilt my guitar is mates with J. does repair work for him, and makes a licensed clone of his big muff

im in brisbane australia, japanese fender is pretty easy to get here

I saw thurston Moore on Saturday night here!!!!! hifi bar in brisbane, and won the tickets at tym's!
