ive been planning a lot of different things with my stang, and i just got the idea of possibly of putting three pickups in it (kind of inspired by thurston moores three pickup stang) right now its wired with a lace telecaster pickup in the neck, and a dimarzio super dist in the bridge. i was thinking if i could put the stock neck pickup back in the neck, and move the telecaster pickup in the middle, and keep the super dist in the bridge. anyone think this could work and sound good?
Sure, after routing the body and pickguard to accommodate the extra pickup, it would absolutely work. I couldn't really tell you if it would sound good to you. Each pickup would definitely sound good on its own. The only small bit of info that may (or may not) matter is that the stock Mustang pickup is significantly less output than the Lace and Super Dist. That's not to say it won't sound good... there may just be a small balance issue and having the Mustang pickup on with one of the other pickups may sound identical to just running the other pickups on their own, due to them overpowering the Mustang pup.
Either way, I think it's a cool idea because you can get another useful tone out of the same guitar, only increasing the versatility.
