DS-1 (Time to Mod)

I decided that since I didn't really care for my newer stock DS-1, that I would give modding it a shot. My first pedal experience didn't go so well. I am hoping this might rebuild some confidence. I am doing the Keeley mod with the added switch that gives it a bit more bass. I ordered the new caps, resistors, and LED's. After I ordered the parts, I went to work taking the old stuff off.

After I disconnected the switch so I could take the board out, I figured I should mark using paint where the purple and black wire went so I don't mix them up by mistake.

Not sure when the new parts will be in. Excited to hear how it sounds when finished. The demo below is the mod I am doing.

I got most of the new caps and resistors on. I need the new LED's before I can do much more. Not much left to do honestly. It isn't too hard of a mod.

Keeley Ultra Mod completed! I really like it. Much more meat to the pedal. Less wussy. 😉

I drilled out my case for the Tone LED and the mode switch.

All done! Apart from the Check LED needing to be reversed to work, everything went in as planned.

Sound demo! ("Check" LED went out this morning. I will swap it out with a blue one when they arrive later this month.)

I liked the mod enough that I got a second DS-1. This time I only did the Seeing Eye Mod. (No case drilling, but the red LED is in there.) I did use a blue LED on this one. I tried both SEM and the Ultra and thought the Ultra was a bit too bassy/heavy so I just did the one mod. I figure if I am running two amps, I could have one DS-1 going to one amp and the other DS-1 feeding my other amp with different settings to create an interesting mix. At any rate, here are the mod pictures for this DS-1. Basically the same changes minus the switch and extra diode changes for the Ultra Mod.
