Has my 1966 Fender Jaguar been refinished?

Hi, new member from London here. I guess I don't need to tell you my guitar of preference. 😡 I have a 1966 Jaguar & I'm thinking of putting it up for sale. Before I list it I would like to ask the experts (you guys) to look it over & let me know if it's all kosher. I'm struggling a bit with this site though - I don't seem to be able to paste either text or links here - what am I doing wrong? Even the tab key doesn't work.... All assistance gratefully received. Here is what the seller said when I bought it:

"Original 1966 Fender Jaguar. Has a relic aged refin. Pickups are US reissues. Neck is straight, and guitar is setup perfect. Serial number is 18XXXX. All controls/switches/pots work perfect. All pots are original, all dated 1966. Pickguard is US reissue. Recent pro refret, with zero wear. All else original. Great player and very light weight."

Does that all sound correct?

What I'm not sure about is whether it has been refinished. How do I tell? Surely it was a lot of extra work to refinish the headstock & apply a new decal? And if it was done, it must have been done a long while ago to discolour as much as it has? I'd like to know more about what other people think before I consider listing it on eBay. I just want to be quite sure what it is I'm dealing with here.

Might be original LPB that's yellowed. If it's a refinish, it's old and well done.

yea, its been refinnished. looks pretty good though.

Thanks. The finish looks pretty old too, though whether that's because it is old or it's just well relic(k)ed I really can't tell. I'm assuming it's Sea Foam Green, unless anyone has any different opinions?

looks more like daphne blue to me.

Probably a recent reliced refin. Looks like Daphne Blue with a yellow clearcoat. Great looking guitar. 😀

A recent refin? I assumed that the dirt etc. under the scratchplate meant it must be quite an old refin. You think this was faked as part of the relic work?

Yes. It's a US reissue pickguard.

There was never any real doubt that it's a US re-issue scratchplate.

Anyway, the guitar is now sold, so thanks to everyone who helped me with identifying it.

Congrats on the sale!

My point was that the refin would have to have been done far earlier than the US reissues were released (in '99) for it to naturally relic like that. So just having an AVRI pickguard means it's a recent refin.

Thanks. Ah, that's a point. I tend to forget that so many guitars only started as AVRIs quite late in the day - 1999. I'm used to the AVRI '62 Strats, which date from 1982, but the AVRI '62 Teles didn't start till 1999, & if the Jags were the same, you have a good point.
