I am thinking about building my own guitar and I was wondering....

for the Jaguar's control plate on the upper horn. Is it possible to wire the rhythm/lead circuit to be just an on off switch for both pickups?

what Im thinking is....

two Knobs by input jack: Operate volume and tone for bridge pickup (probably a humbucker).

rollers: Volume and tone for neck pickup.

there would probably be a humbucker in the bridge, and a single coil in the neck position.

and I would mount a toggle switch on the bottom for the pickups....Is that possible for wiring? If so how?

also what kind of pots should I use and all those other goodies.

You mean, you want the upper horn switch to turn both pickups on and both pickups off?

What about the 3 switches in the control plate to control neck/bridge/lowcut, or will your guitar even have that?

I'd recommend some sort of three way toggle switch in the upper horn if that'd be your means to control pickup configuration, up=neck, middle=both, down=bridge, then for ####s and giggles I'm sure you could have a push-push switch installed that turns on and off off the pickups in whatever configuration you have them, ala Buckethead's white Les Paul.

So the upper switch is just a kill switch? Just wire the switch between the jack tip and ground.

yes, the upper switch that is normally rhythm/lead (up/down), would be off/on (up/down). a kill switch like you said.

on the lower horn instead of three switches it would be one three way toggle switch for the two pickups, (humbucker in the bridge, single in the neck)

so the rotary wheels are volume and tone for neck pickup, the usual knobs are volume and tone for bridge pickup. The upper switch by the wheels is a kill switch (up = off, down = on). and instead of the three pickup selecter bass cut switches its just a gibson or jazzmaster toggle switch.

Use a Les Paul wiring diagram, replace all the Jag pots with 500k audio tapers and wire the kill switch like I said above. A kill switch just shorts the jack - don't be tempted to have it break the circuit though, that would work but there would be hum when you close the switch.

You could save money on pots by buying 3 1M resistors and wiring them in parallel across each of the Jag's 1M pots, this'll bring them down to 500k but they'll still be linear taper. You will have to replace the 50k tone pot on the rhythm plate with a 500k or 250k though else that pickup will probably sound much darker than you'd want. The low value lets your top-end bleed to ground, the higher the value the brighter the pickup will sound which is why the rhythm circuit on a Jaguar sounds darker than the same pickup in the lead circuit.
