I picked up a Duo Sonic body. This is how it was before the owner had work done on it.

8278638511_520d7b53e5_o by Hentai No Baka, on Flickr Above is how it came to me with a red tortoise guard, pickups, switches, and bridge. I need to get a control plate, jack, and knobs still. The first thing I did is sand more paint off. I planed on painting over the finish and using it as primer but that yellow paint was peeling off like dead skin, so it had to go.

IMG_3712 by Hentai No Baka, on Flickr Since I am going to seal and spray anyways and the holes on the guard didn't match 100%, I just figured I would fill those and drill fresh ones once the painting is finished.

Plugged holes were trimmed, sanded, and now the front of the body has sealer applied. Tomorrow I can seal the back.

Back is sealed! Now it will sit for a bit because I fly to Japan tomorrow morning and won't be back for a few weeks.

A forum buddy did that part, so I can't take credit for it. 😀 I should be able to get to painting it soon. Just got back from Japan.

First coat of black (as a primer) is done. Once it is dry (maybe tomorrow) I will lightly sand it to prep it for a second coat of black.

Coat number two. Tomorrow morning I will lightly sand again for coat number three. Smoothing out a lot. 😀

First coat of clear went on well. Making the metallic flakes stand out a bit more and also darkened it a bit also. 😀 Digging it.

All wetsanded, polished, and assembled! Just need strings! I am very pleased with how it turned out. 😀 The color combo turned out great also!

Kind of pissed. Got strings on and realized the saddles barely go high enough to get off the neck. It is like the bridge is sitting too low. I got them high enough, but they won't intonate right. Looks like I need to buy longer intonation screws. There goes a good set of strings...

Not really. I will fix it. 😀

All done. I was able to intonate it, but the saddles maxed have action that is really low. (Almost buzzing.) Sadly that means this will be wall art, but it was still a fun run. I can't really do much more for it without having the bridge higher.

I decided to suck it up. I went in the garage and got a piece of wood, cut it to the shape of the plate, shaved it down a little, painted it black, and now I have this.

Kind of looks like a floating bridge now. I didn't have a full set of strings, so I used a couple scrap ones to check the height until I can go tomorrow to get some more strings. As you can see from the picture below, I should be able to get the action high enough for my liking. 😀

Good solution. Saves this guitar, which is a beautiful piece of work (need white knobs... 😉 ). So let us know how it plays when you get new strings on it.
