Hello Friends, long-time lurker, etc. etc.
I decided about seven years ago to completely rebuild my '96 jag-stang that I got brand new for Christmas when I was 13. I pulled everything out of it, and then promptly left it in my closet until this summer, when I got to work instead of studying for law school finals.
(pretend I wasn't drunk when ordering pickups and the lace is white also).
So here's the deal: I bought a p-rail for the bridge pickup, but no one anywhere explains how to use the mustang switch to go from north coil-series-south coil. I tried my own wiring scheme with disastrous results, so for now I have the neck switch as the pickup selector, and the bridge switch going from north coil to parallel to south coil.
Although everything sounds great and I never felt the way about a pickup like I do about the P-90 coil, I already get a parallel sound from using the neck and p-90 together. Has anybody done this successfully? I know its usually not recommended because normal humbucker coils don't sound distinct enough to want the split, but there are audible differences between these two coils and I'd like all three sounds. My going theory is that I grounded something with something else that shouldn't have been joined.
This didn't work well enough. My thinking was that with the switch toward the neck, the north coil would go to the selector; in the middle, it would be like the two coils were wired together; and in the bridge, just the south would go to the selector. I didn't do a whole lot of testing other than "gah, noisey, buzzing, bad!" before switching the whole mess to an easy north-parallel-south config. I've looked at the triple shot for the p-rail, but I really don't need the parallel sound, nor do I want to contend with another hunk of plastic on what looks relatively clean right now.
Any help would be greatly appreciated; this was my first attempt at wiring (success) and my first attempt at drawing my own diagram (abject failure).
