About the switch!?!

Someone can tell me the use of the switch? In-off fase.....I have no idea what it's means!

both off:

-0- -0-

both on:

0-- 0-- or --0 --0

both on, out of phase with eachother:

0-- --0 or --0 0--

it should really be in the FAQ...
