Fender Jaguar HH Special Edition - Questions

I got my hands on a Jaguar HH Special Edition last year. I saw the colored headstock, HH configuration, tune-o-matic, etc, and after reading some reviews/doing some homework on specs, I snagged it. I enjoy it a lot. I slapped some strap locks and new tuning knobs on it and its great.

Anyway, I am thinking of saving some money up and ugrading a little bit. I have a few questions for other Jaguar HH owners and I'm hoping this is the place to get my questions answered. Any help you can provide me is greatly appreciated.

Forgive my ignorance, I am a newb.

1.)Hard case - I need a hardcase for this guitar. So far reading online reviews/message board posts has got me no where as the same items that state the guitar fits perfectly also have reviews detailing the problems of using this case with that guitar. So my first question is, what is the best fitting case for this instrument? Jazzmaster case? Jaguar case? Which brand?

2.)Pickguard - I am considering changing the pickguard. Havent decided what color yet. Anyhoo, what reputable dealer can provide me with the perfect fitting pickguard? I dont want an ill-fitting ebay cheapo (been there, done that). Are pickguards hard to swap out on this instrument?

3.)Pickups - I am also tossing around the idea of upgrading the pickups. Problem is, I know nothing about upgrading pickups. I have yet to pick out what I want but I need to know, given the amount of switches on this guitar, are pickup replacements especially difficult? I would love to improve the sound of this guitar but i have no idea where to start.

4.)Cleaning - What cleaning steps do you recommend to extend the life of this guitar? I have read about lemon oil - both good and bad things. I am considering buying some name brand guitar neck oil but am weary of its price/effectiveness. What do other owners of this guitar here do? Clean after every use? Wipe down strings? Clean fretboard? How?

oiling the board is a good idea, anything from olive oil, lemon oil, to the pricey stuff, it pretty much all does the same thing.

i would just get some nice cheap lemon oil, it will do just fine.

as far as pickguards go. as long as you are looking for the HH model everything should fit just fine. they only did that model for a few years and with no variation. I.E. they didn't change factories or move anything. so just go on ebay, type in fender hh jaguar pickguard and start browsing, doesn't really matter about dealer or maker since they willl all be the same, i take you had bad experience with a strat or tele styled guard? anywho.

as far as pickups go. its pretty simple, but if you have never used a soldering iron before then its best to let a tech do all the work.

figure out what kind of sound you are going for. then you can start to look for pickups. personally i think GFS makes a great pickup at a GREAT price, and if you decided you did't like said pickup(s) then it is easy to sell them off and get some more that you will like.

I LOVE my Jag HH. I put a white pearloid pickguard on mine, and swapped out the bridge pickup for a Duncan JB. Haven't and will not change anything else about it.

I suppose I'll buy some lemon oil and see how that goes.

Suprisingly, eBay didn't have much to offer in the way of Jaguar HH pickguards. I'll keep my eyes open though, thats how eBay works. And yeah, I actually bought a pickguard for a strat - the screw holes didn't quite line up, the material was cheap with rough edges, the color was yellowed, and the seller didnt accept returns. I learned my lesson 😡

I know how to solder I guess I just need to find out what pickups suit my fancy.

any humbucker will fit in the jag you have. there are about 1,009 variations on the strat. country, year, manufacturer, they all play a role in the difference.

but there is only ONE fender jaguar HH. and any place that has one labeled as such will fit your guitar
