Blacktop Jazzmaster Can the Bridge Humbucker Be Replaced

Hello:

I'm an intermediate guitar player with a great new Blacktop Jazzmaster.

I want to replace the bridge humbucker but I read in another forum this might not be possible because the stock humbucker is shallower than something I can get from Seymour Duncan. Is this true? Can the humbucker be replaced? If it can be, I'm looking for a less shrill and trebly humbucker; something more mellow, something I can play Blues and Smooth Jazz with, something more like the B-90 neck pickup.

Also, I will be replacing the bridge with a Warmoth bridge this month due to, "bridge fuzz." I hope it works or I will have to replace it with a Mastery Bridge which is far more expensive but certain to fix the problem.

Of course it can be replaced, any pickup can be replaced, if the route isn't deep enough that can be done as well. As to being less trebly, the bridge will always be a bit more trebly than the neck simply because of its location in relation to the bridge. I'd say look at what your favorite players use, then go from there.

i had no problem replacing mine with a gfs humbucker sized p-90, i have since routed it out for a jazzy pup to be put in. i believe the route is def deep enough. if anything you may want to keep the pickup ring just to compensate for the 2-3 mms it adds

Shimmed neck (increases the angle over the bridge... also good for bridgr issues and sustain)

The mini that was used in the LP Deluxe were made by Epiphone. Gibson decided to make them fit into a P-90 route to both prevent re-tooling for regular humbuckers, and to use up stocks of the Epi pups they had when they bought the Epi company.

haven't been around for awhile... its an AV 65 jazzmaster
