Replacement Pickups To Make It Sound Less Like An Electric Ukelele?

I've had my Jag-Stang for just over a year now, and I love playing it, but can't get the sound I want from it.

I've tried three different amps, different gauge strings, effects pedals and tunings, but to me it still sounds jangly and high, without that Bleach-era muddy tone. It sounds like it would be more useful playing George Formby than Nirvana.

So, I've arrived at replacing the stock pick-ups for something a little more hardcore. A friend has recommended http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/electric/humbucker/high-output/synyster_gates/ these from Seymour Duncan? Are they any good on a JS? And if so, can you recommend a single coil to partner it? Or should I go for a Hot Rail?

Yea screw that Synyster Gates crap. Just get a normal Invader if thats the type of tone you want. I have the JB in Jag-stang. I am partial to the 59, Custom 5. Do you want hotter output, more low end, more mid, etc?

Yeah, I'm looking for it to sound less twangy, more grungy.

Well Duncan website has samples of all the pick ups on there. Give those a listen. The 59, and Custom 5 or more of your classic PAF tone. The JB is what Kurt had in his guitars.
