Jaguar rhythm circuit - useful??

who here uses their Jaguar's rhythm circuit (the top set of controls), and if so what for?? I don't own a Jag but i believe the top circuit uses lower pot values and higher cap value, adding bass to the sound which wouldn't be great for it's intended purpose (playing rhythm).

All the bands i know that use Jaguars completely ignore the extra feature - in fact both Placebo and Sonic Youth often tape over the controls on the upper horn with black duct tape, to stop them accidently knocking the guitar into 'rhythm' mode!

i'm curious to see how all the jag owners on this board use this feature, if at all!

I think is dosent give more bass, it cuts the treble. I use the rythm controls for..... rythm playing and switch to lead when the lead part comes.. Good for having two sounds when you are alone playing guitar in an small combo.

It all comes down to what music you are playing. I play lo-fi 50-60

It's versatile if your a versatile player looking for different tones from your instrument, that circuit sounds particularly good for 'flutey' leadwork and blues.

I like a lot of sonic youth and placebo material but let's be honest, as guitarists being versatile is'nt really in their vocabulary.

I see the rhythm circuit as adding extra chrome - which, let's face it, is a good thing.

i liked to use the neck pup on its own through the rhythm circuit on my old jag. and i like to use it on the AV reissue as well. it's a more bassier tone. don't really bother using the bridge pup much

I use the rhythm circuit a lot, it's rather useful for those 80's New Wave chorusy leads ala. Missing Persons or Loverboy, as well as for a good "woman tone" and some other stuff I like to do tone wise as well. For me that switch is a mere pickup selector, I hardly ever change the rollers from full blast.

As for the lead circuit, I hardly ever use the neck pickup alone, I usually just toss it into the mix for clean parts. The rest of the time I'm running on the bridge pickup with both knobs flat out and the strangle off. Basically, the Rhythm/Lead switch acts more as a pickup selector for me than anything else.

i have to agree.95% of my jag playing is clean with a little OD for lead sometimes.i dont use the bridge pup much but i play bluesy stuff alot,which i think the neck pup sounds great with.personally i dont care what recording artist are doing with their jags.with that being said i think everyone here knows that the jaguar is a versatile instrument that alot of different tones can be gotten from.

i just had a stupid though...what if Placebo use only the rhythym circuit when playing, and tape over the controls to stop them activating the lead circuit??

of course ive never played a Jag and have only heard a few clean soundclips, so i'm not sure what each would sound like with distortion!!

Here's a good video of Placebo on Youtube - man thats the sound i want! damn what a beautiful disortion sound..!! Can any jag owners confirm whether he's using lead or rhythym circuit?

Looks like Brian has all 3 lower switches down...so if he is using the lead circuit he has both pickups and the strangleswitch engaged?

p.s. as you can tell i'm a bit obsessed with Placebo. unfortunately they stopped using Jaguars after their first album, but they're still a cool band.

wish someone would do a jaguar demo vid on this board...like i did with the jag-stang. i wanna hear all the pickup combinations!

Thanks for the kind comments but I'm really still an amateur in my playing and my tone isn't that fantastic (it's the illusion caused via the mobile phone recording really!)

Coincidentally, I WAS using the rhythm circuit for the solos, running through my RAT2 and Metal Zone at the same time with a little delay added.

I remember seeing your vids and wondering why you had not come to the forum yet. Either way, I like dig playing and sound, proof that the Jag is not just made for surf, punk, new wave, and alternative.

Actually,as for the link, I have a new one of me playing bits of original works (stuff I wrote myself) here. It shows the guitar after I removed the tune-o-matic and added the pickup covers. It looks, sounds, and plays better to my eyes, ears, and hands. Plus we finally get to see me do something original for once.
