Hi and hello! I am new to this.
Picked up a sweet looking blue Mustang yesterday and while I don't dislike the overall tone, I would like to tweak it more towards bright, jangly, low-output, complex. In other words, more like the Jags that I played, specifically the Johnny Marr Jag I really loved (and could not afford...).
I guess this has been discussed and I've read a little about the 250K vs 1Meg post (which are easily changed) and the different pickup anchoring (to body vs. in pickguard(.
So basically: Replacing the the 250k with a 1Meg pot and making/ordering a custom pickguard should do, right? Just vol or vol AND tone?
About the PUs being attached to the body: Do Jags have some sort of threaded metal base down there? Maybe a shielding that acts like the plate under a Tele Bridge PU? Does it influence tone at all or is it rather structural?
Right now the guitar has a SC sized SD bridge Humbucker and the original neck PU.
However, whatever I do should be reversible.
