hey

if i decide to replace my jaguar knobs with witch-hats or even these ones would i need to have it re-potted? stupid question i know but my volume knob at the moment is screwed up and i need to have it re-potted.. i just want to know before i have it done as i'm going to purchase one of those knobs asap, i don't want to have to have it re-potted twice (not that it's expensive, just that the person who's doing it lives 30mins from me and i hate taking public transport 😛 )

how do you take the knobs off of the shaft? 😡

i tried turning it.. but that's how it buggered up in the first place lol..

do i just yank it out? 😢

i really been meaning to pick up that 'idiots guide to guitars' but always slips my mind... 🙄

there is a little screw on the side. unscrew it and the knob will slide off the pot shaft

dude mine doesn't have those.. like a screw.. on either of the knobs.

i have a cij jaguar made this year if that helps.

if it had a screw i probably would've known how to lol.. 😕

i bought it brand new from ishibashi..

i put it under a bridge light incase they were black and i couldnt see them.. lol.. but to no avail.

well the japanese must be glueing them on nowadays, or making them retrofit. you'll just have to yank them off, i suppose. much like you do with a les paul knob. be careful though. if you feel like you're pulling them too much, then stop. or you may pull the shaft out of the pot. then the pot will be ruined

i did this with my strat. not sure if its the same. what i did was get a tiny screw driver and pry the knob off a little bit at a time. if your going to do that make sure you protect the body and the knobs. i chipped the knobs on mine a little bit and scratched the pg ☹

god it would've saved me a lot of trouble if i'd worked this out before 😛

only the volume knob seems to be not working..

do both them just need to be re-potted?

there should be a resistor, leading from the tone pot, to the volume pot. it looks like it's come off.

I've never seen a jaguar with a screw on the knobs either.

The best way to take a knob off is how someone here said (especially with a plastic pickguard underneath) .. is to get a cloth , and stick it under the knob and turn it so that it's all the way underneath, and pull straight up. Never use a screwdriver you'll muck sheet up.

Rick, Japanese jaguars have never had set screws. As you can see in those pictures, they have split shaft pots, which press against the inside of the knob, holding it on. It's the same thing as a strat really. And japanese mustangs, too. Those GFS knobs will probably fit right on though, as I don't think they use a set screw.

that's funny. my japanese mustang had a screw on the knob. or at least i thought it did

Hmm...well both my Mustang and my Jaguar were made in '94, so perhaps they did at one time. Really though, they ought to, to make it more accurate. The Japanese knobs are nowhere near as attractive as the proper American ones either.

my whole fleet of black knobs with white stripes are all slide on. no screws in any of em.

Neither my Jagstang or Jap Jag knobs have screws in them.
