Kaoss Pads in Guitars?

i'm just throwing this out here largely due to the fact that i've been on a huge muse binge lately, but i was wondering if anyone has every been able to get their hands on one of these.

i'm 99% sure that you can't actually purchase them right now, and that they're likely just after-market mods... but i assumed with the recent hysteria [pun intended] over muse, and the fact that jack white's apparently got one in his airliner now, this mod may have actually been attempted by someone.

so in short, anyone played one? if so, do they change the weight much? how's playability? how is it integrating it into regular songs?

or, hell... just discuss the damn thing.

kinda like a theramin, only not, at the very same time.

kaoss pads are far more versatile... you can use them for a myriad of things... but the application there is quite similiar.

i love theramins... nick from devotchka rocks the eff out on one of them.

wonder where i could pick one of them uo.

a theramin....ebay has them every now and then i saw them when I searched Jimmy Page i seen one didnt buy it though,I would like that pad if it wasnt lighted where people can see it flashing I dont like that but it does seem kinda cool.

wow that demo video was incredible - what an amazing guitar!

not sure about the kaos pad, i'd be more interested in the built in fuzz factory and Fernandez Sustainer circuit.

Main problem is playing that guitar, you'd just sound exactly like Muse (who i dont particularly like!)

i'm not sure you'd sound exactly like muse... the pad has multiple different effects built in, so the potential [while not limitless] is pretty wide-open... i think the chance would be there though, which would make it require something of a different point of view.

the fuzz factory is definitely cool, but to me the sustainer [anyone know how/where these are installed/purchased?] and pad are enough.

just search for "Fernandes Sustainer" on ebay - you can get them as a kit to fit les paul or strat type guitars for about

I really don't like Muse, but that guitar is awesome! I've been thinking about hooking my theremin up to a guitar for aaaaaages..

they did make a guitar with a pad on it, but i can't remember what it's called or even what it looks like... i distinctly remember seeing it, late 90's i guess.

If you go on the Manson Guitars website it talks about all of Matt Bellamy's Manson built guitars. I'm pretty sure he said he'd never build one of them again because it was such a nightmare to wire up but I could be wrong. It is bloody cool though!

As for the Fernandes Sustainer, if you're feeling creative and are on a tight budget you could probably knock this together for about

i've never really tooled around the manson site much before.

that diagram does look like it could be pretty rad. if i ever grow the cajones to open up one of the babies, i may try it...

or i could just tear open the js. 😛

Yeah, it's seriously simple, it's just a small amplifier which takes the sound from one pickup and feeds it back into the other giving you a continuous feedback loop, therein giving you infinate sustain, the proper Fernades ones probably work more or less exactly the same way, dunno, I've never seen inside one.
