Hello! I'm a newby to this forum. I managed to trade some old pedals I don't use anymore for a Squier VM Jag. I have a MIM Mustang (Pawn Shop Special) that I love. The 24" scale works really well for me. So I am super excited about getting this Jag.
It comes with Seymour Duncan Designed single coils which need to go. First off, they're not potted, I can sing through them😆 , and with a little crunch I get a ton of feedback. Second, I can hardly use the bridge pickup by itself.
For the neck what I'm after is a noiseless pickup that retains that beautiful clean sound I get with either neck circuit right now. It doesn't matter whether it's a single coil or humbucker design as long as it's quieter that a regular single coil and retains the Jag clean characteristics I hear now.
For the bridge, I'm looking at for a single coil sized humbucker. I'd like a fatter/warmer sound for classic rock (Zep, Aerosmith, VH) and heavy blues. However, I would also like to maintain a little bit of the single coil sound. Based on review I've read, the rail style single coil sized humbuckers might fit the bill as the complaints are they're not quite a humbucker or sc.
Finally, I'd like the both pickups to match up well when played together. I'm looking at a Warmoth pickguard that's made to fit standard strat size pickups to keep mods easy.Â
Thanks in advance!
