lil' rig update here. No new gear, just rediscovering that DOD malmsteen pedal I bought off Fran.

Basically, I've been using it to get a friendlier high end out of my crate, as that amp has a very sharp, shrill high end, so if I ever do need to cut through the mix a bit with some highs, I'll kick in that box. I can also use it by turning the gain on the crate down to about 2, gain on the pedal on full and then my stagemaster on neck/neck and middle, and I get that nice spanky, sharp and slightly overdriven tone kinda like mad-mike. I can also get that same effect by using it as a clean boost.

I'm really surprised how versatile that pedal is for such a cheap thing. It made me write 2 riffs today. I can only ever write riffs when I have great sound.

I remember when Henry borrowed the DOD Malmsteen. Played it through a JCM800 or a 900. Can't remember which. It was truly horrid. 😆

You have to keep the pedal gain low with these things so it just pushes the valves, same with Tubescreamers. Its not like a Big Muff where you kick it in dimed out and its like 'whoooah! today i am billy corgan'.

Tbh, i rarely use anything these days in TA other than the TS, a Bad Monkey and Boss Metallizer. Gone are the days of two Delay's and whatever EHX gadget has tickled my fancy that month.

What was he doing with it? Plus I think the battery was flat then.

It works fine off an adaptor (thin old RAT type) but has seen some abuse, battery cover missing and i think a pot shaft is slightly bent. Tbh, i have'nt had it out in a long time so i'll have to check it over.

The battery was mine iirc....

it sounded alright on my champ. kinda rat/shredmaster-ish, but on the jcm, it was foul, i felt ill and chundered all over gus' pedals 🤮

My band consists on only 2 guitarists and a drummer. I play w/ both amps on at all times... The mix of tones together really helps fill in the lack of a bass player. Sounds pretty awesome actually. I also create bass drone loops that we use on some of our more spacey songs.

This was fun. I've never really thought of sharing this...Cool thread.
