ive signed up to the forum to basically make this post.
i always say I'm a Gibson man, but have Only owned one. ( idiot!). On stage my work horses have always been teles and my mustang. (Did have a firebird for a while but it was stolen). Even on tape, mainly fender...
i used to be in a decent touring band and after losing the firebird my MIJ mustang had to step up. I dropped a BKP nailbomb in the bridge (tech guy did it), removed all switches, disconnected the neck single coil and upgraded the pots (not sure what they were before but they're 500's now). Added micro kill switch in-between pots too.
I love the guitar but it is a real hard rock beast - I want to retain that but add some cool blues/jazz tones too.
In my older age I'm collecting guitars but I still keep going back to the neck of the mustang. I have money to spend and rather than buy a new guitar to add to the closed cases in my spare room, I'm going all out on my mustang
my question is 2:
1: compound radius mod: has anyone had any experience of getting the neck altered to compound radius? Will the bridge cope? Will it make the same difference as it does on a strat or tele?
2: is this wiring too much? I'm going to reintroduce the slide switches (now I'm not on stage I don't need to worry about stripping my knuckles anymore). One will be pick up selector the other series/parallel. Plus these mods:
BKP Irish tour neck pickup New bone nut New trem arm, reset trem to original (I had reversed it to make it T-O-M-like) Coil split on nailbomb, volume knob 250 or 500 pots? Micro toggle kill switch(currently push to break) i know that's lots of info, prob too much... but anyone who's done any of the above (especially neck) please let me know your thoughts. Brian
