Jag-Stang weight and neck

Hi guys,

I keep on looking at Jag-stangs. I love Jaguars but find them a bit too big and too chrome-y, while Mustangs look a bit boring to me. The Jag-Stang on the other hand look like beauties to me, and seem to be exactly the kind of guitar I want. However, there's none available around here, thus I'll have to depend on buying online. Which isn't ideal.

I know the fretboard is 7-25 radius, and it's got a 24"neck. Both exactly what I'm looking for. But how thick and wide is the neck, compared to modern Jags or Mustangs? I'm a bit worried that the neck will be a bit too thick and wide for my liking. Basically, being into quick playing and having small hands I'd be happier with a thin, narrow neck.

Also, how heavy are these beauties?

Finally, what were the original Japanese colour/pickguard combinations available?

I never owned one but Kurt had small hands and liked thin necks. I have his signature mustang and it’s very thin, I heard jagstangs were about the same or more thin. As for the colors they came in fiesta red or Sonic blue with white pearl pickguards. I didn’t want to buy one online either without being able to see it in person, so I’m building one from warmoth.

Yes, I thought they might be very thin. I once trialed a Kurt Jag and really loved it. But they are a bit above my price range, and I'm not really into the colour. Unfortunately, there's no guitar shop around where I can actually compare the Kurt Jag with a normal Jag. And there's no shop around that has any Mustang.

Warmoth,.. yes, I looked at that... I'm not sure I would dare to do such a project at this moment in time. And they don't seem to have a true to size Jagstang neck I think, provided they differ from mustang or jag necks to start with (my question above). And the pickguards, if in need of replacement would need to come from them as well. On the other hand I could make sure the humbucker could be split cabled (similar to the Player Jag). Just out of interest: how much do you think would such a self-build cost in the end?

It all depends on what you want. You could buy a used jagstang for less I’m sure. Kurt sent fender one of his mustang necks I believe for them measure and recreate it’s size. The Kurt jaguar has a 9.5 radius and larger nut so it wouldn’t be close to the jagstang neck. I have both the signature mustang and jaguar and the mustang neck is 7.25 radius and thinner. I think I read that finding a mustang reissue neck is the best bet if you can’t find a real jagstang neck. I’m not sure though.
