i've been reading articles about the jagstang and almost everyone says that the jagstang is a really sucky guitar and its always out of tune..and its really confusing me..so please..if anyone has a stock jagstang with no modificatios at all...please post a video on youtube of you playing the stock jagstang so i can see if they are wrong or not..

It's bull. Like any guitar it just needs to be set up correctly. My Jag-Stang never goes out of tune. I've only replaced the humbucker, which won't affect tuning obviously, so if you want to hear it in tune, check out any of the songs on my myspace - they were all recorded with my Jag-Stang.

My guitar stays in tune for days, and I play it regularly. I've not modified it, I just put some 10s on it, stretched them for a few minutes and it's been great ever since. I don't have a whammy bar for it, but I use the vibrato all the time and it really doesn't affect the tuning. The only thing questionable is the bridge humbucker. It's "weak" on distortion settings, you might like it (it's different, different can be good for your own sound), but you might also want to change it. The neck single sounds beautiful, the guitar is in general very comfortable to play (it's neck is absolutely amazing) and as a small scale, I for one find it a lot more comfortable to play.

Mine stays in tune, it's all about stretching the strings and tweaking the trem right. Mine still has the stock bridge (the pickups and switches would have NOTHING to do with tuning). I've been using my Jag-Stang for 8 years as a "heavy metal" guitar, dive bombs, swoops, and had very little to no trouble keeping it in tune. Actually, it's been more reliable than any of my Floyd Rose/Kahler equipped guitars.

I'm guessing this is the case. I remember when Kurt was still alive, back when Nirvana was popular, one of the most common things Kurt Cobain would say in guitar magazines is that the Mustang/Jag-Stang bridge was a literal piece of ####, and designed by a "dork". Of course, he never knew you could use a hex wrench to raise or lower the bridge. I think most peoplewho say the Mustang/Jag-Stang bridge sucks are just trying to be like Kurt and not think for themselves (which is kinda sad actually). Nothing against Teh Kurdtz, the point is, a lot of people are sheep and will just take someone says about a guitar at face value rather than try it themselves.

If it did not work, Leo probably would not have released it, that's how I see it.

lukye , mine just stayed aftert lock bridge witch is buggy

not just me but about 12 friends , 2 luthier , and my teacher tested and talked off tune , witch i like more floyd , Gotoh Wilson V100 Tremolo , some day i will test kahler

first things stopped work on my guitars is the tunners , witch started be hard to use and oil dont fixed any more , nut are plastic , straps started drop the strap easy witch offered risk drop down and damage the guitar , so i requested added graphite nut , lock straps , m6 schaller lock , after it i got idea change pickups , custom wiring , but ....... she never sayed on tune

finalle thing i did are lock bridge , and now stayng a bit in tune but is instable

Adjustaments ??? how about 4 moths tryng anything possible to fix that ####....

when my Randy rhoads V stay on tune after abuse tremolo , bends my jag-stang go out of tune whit a simple full bend

when my V i just do 1/2 tune per day some , Some times stay in tune per days

my jag-stang i do tune after i play , playng and before i play

i very bored about jag-stang , is buggy tons problemn a incomplete project and very buggy

a big mistake i did bought she ..... Super Strato , Les paul , Sg sounds better

how can he be "lucky"? have you watched his vids? why isn't his guitar totally out of tune at the end of it?

kluson tuners don't just suddenly stop working. and you don't put oil on them, you put grease on them.

virtually all guitar nuts are plastic. and a hell of a lot of guitars share the same strap buttons as well. infact, i wish people would stop talking about most of the hardware on the jag-stang as if it were completely unique. it's not. you're looking at tried and tested parts that are on a lot of guitars people don't constantly complain about.

how can it possibly be unstable if it's locked? alot of the 'problems' with mustangs or jag-stangs seem to be almost described as magic. because if something is not tangible enough to be put into a proper description, then it isn't worth having a discussion about. for instance, you've already said you locked the bridge and added locking tuners and changed the nut. and that it wasn't any better. so doesn't that tell you there was nothing wrong with the stock components you needlessly removed? hell, i bet you could change the neck, body, bridge, and everything, and it still wouldn't be right.

maybe it's just you that sucks 😉 j/k

not 100% stable coz , the lock method i used are put screws ... thats give 98% fixed bridge , but dont stay 100%

i can play bad , but is funny when i training scales and she go out of tune

give me a wich high up and down crashing the jag

after all now a bit on tune .... not 100% but a bit

I can confirm that they do have hex adjust, the problem is that acid and sweat and stuff from the players hands probably gathers in the holes on the vintage bridges, causing rust and corrosion, which might be a possibility. I also notice the those spring tension adjustments are made of a softer metal that's not as resiliant to not being careful by using the wrong wrench and stripping the hex connection. Also, tuning is also corrected a bit by good technique if your trem is really worn in like mine (my pivot holes have curls of metal where the trem's been pivoting), I find if I pull up on the bar too much, it goes sharp, and it's just a really quick downward movement to center the trem again where it should be to put the guitar back in tune. The trem is almost a second instrument in and of itself.

I just spent all the past weekend fooling with the Jag-Stang bridge out of boredom, I made an odd new discovery, that LESS tension on the springs (to a point) give's more pitch variation in bar movement. I set the springs up a notch towards the plate, and loosened the screws, I can now get a perfect octave using less bar travel, the darn bar looks to be about the same height off the pickguard as that on my strat. Apparently the Mustang trem uses reverse logic as far as spring tension goes., probably because when the bar moves forward, at a point it starts pushing down on the strings more than slackening them, and starts tensioning them back again.

oh ok, the vintage ones have bubbles with tiny holes there. is it a different type of socket?

it's just a different type of manufacture. the rivets are welded over the top

What's so funny is that's what I toyed with doing before I ever touched, played, or got a Mustang/Jag-Stang. Now, 3 Mustang's tried, and 2 Jag-Stang's tried, and one Jag-Stang I own later I can't stand Kahlers and like the Mustang Bridge better, go figure.....
