Yeah that sort of pricing sounds best. I believe in 1996 Fender Japan models started using the "Crafted in Japan" instead of "Made in Japan". All reissue Jag-Stangs have the Crafted in Japan on the back of the neck, but the old ones mostly had Made in Japan on them, except the later first edition ones, such as the one you describe. I guess you could always try to tell him it's a reissue and so isn't worth as much. My guitar had no tremolo arm either (I've seen them on the net for a fiver, don't worry about that but make sure he knows it devalues it!). My pickups also have a little rust (don't worry about it in case you are!), again just make sure he realises this is going to devalue it.
