Exactly, it's all down to your playing style and Kurt's clearly involved him "missing" occasionally. Some people strum at the bridge, some strum right upto the neck.
That thing is amazing, if it came with a single coil neck pickup that'd be like my dream guitar, I'm not a big fan of having two humbuckers and not too keen on the bound neck but my god otherwise that thing is great!
