hi....

the input on my JS (where i stick the cable in) fell into the cavity when i was finaggling with it. I took the silver plate off....and noticed that there is a yellow wire that im guessing is supposed to be connected to something, and there is a ring-like thing with teeth like metal in the middle. can someone please tell me what needs to go where? what needs to be connected to what?

that sounds like it could be a washer of some kind. has a wire actually been disconnected here? do you see any broken solder joints?

yeah, the yellow wire is totally off, and i can see that the wire has broken through the soder.

Here's an image of the inside of mine. I have no yellow wires, just black and white (probably different versions, I'm not saying you're wrong to have yellow) but here's what yours should look like, minus the wire I accidentally snapped off the solder joint while opening it (I need to get round to fixing that...).

Looks like, from what I can see in the picture, it's your ground wire to the sheilding paint (that black paint that lines in inside of the electronics cavity, yes it has a purpose, and yesiree it's conductive). The Jag-Stang has a little piece of metal screwed to the bottom of the humbucker cavity that makes contact with the sheilding paint. If not It could be the ground wire to the bridge too. I don't know for sure though since the guitar I have is customized with EMG pickups, wherein you're not supposed to have a ground wire going to the bridge (ground fault risk).

hey thanks guys for the advice.....

i went to a guitar tech and he fixed it for me. The wire that was supposed to be connected to the output jack just ripped out of the soder. He sodered it back up, and all was good.

Yeah, it didnt work untill we put everything back in place (the metal plate back on the guitar)...im guessing because of the conductive black paint you speak of has to be touching it or something.

about the 250k pots....whats the difference between those and 500k?

Pot value changes the sound slightly (the higher the value, the "cleaner" or "trebly" it is) and it also affects the output level just a tad too. 500K pots are louder and have a little more treble than a 250K. But then, if you are getting into oddballs, the Jaguar and JAzzmaster use 1MEG pots on the lead circuit, which are the trebliest and loudest of them all. Also, the higher the value, the more immediate the response is to the volume control going up or down, as it has to make a quicker change to go to full resistance.
