Is it special? Jag-Stang '96 (Fender 50yrs of Excellence)

This might be a newbie question, but I gotta ask 'cause I don't know.. 😡

I've got this fiesta red Jag-Stang, that has a sticker on the backside of the necktop saying "Fender 1946-1996; Celebrating 50 years of Excellence". (See http://koti.mbnet.fi/sqxo/gfx/fjs06.jpg) It's in pretty good condition, maybe just a few little scrathces but that's it. Came with a hard case, which I have messed up a bit from the outside with a few stickers I added in my teens.. 🙄 Only thing missing is the whammy bar, or whatever you name the rod used to make vibratos etc, because it came without it. Behind the neck it says Made in Japan; Serial number U032912.

Is this any different than a Jag-Stang from '95 or '97 etc? Is it rare? More valuable than the ones not '96? I haven't even thought about selling it, but if it's a rare one maybe I should handle it with special care. Like have it next to me when sleeping.. 😆

Personally I don't see anything special, besides the little sticker. And yes, I've already "spoiled" the guitar by slightly modding it, changed the humbucker to Seymour D. JB etc ( http://koti.mbnet.fi/sqxo/gfx/jsmod01.jpg ). I still got the original parts though, so it can be restored back to normal.

I also checked out the FAQ about getting a Jag-Stang, but I didn't quite understand why the prices were varying from approx. 200 to 800$?! 😲 What would be a proper price for my Jag-Stang? Approximately?

Best to check on eBay, the prices are always fluctuating. There's nothing special about any Jag-Stangs really, yeah they're out of production, but there's still a lot floating around. The "originals" and "reissues" are more or less identical, the '96 run may have been earlier, but that won't impress most users. I've come to terms with the fact that though mine's worth more than an average guitar that's in production, it means way more to me than anything else I'm going to get and that I probably won't be selling it. Right now I'd be happy to do some irreversible mods to it, because well, it's mine!

Jag-Stang rocks still ok anyway, only if the humbucker was straight in line with the strings it could be better. But it's too big load of work to start fixing that. Maybe someday.. 😛

A Jag-stang is a Jag-stang, unless its a lefty its worth the same as any other jag-stang (lefties fetchs US$100 - $200 more on ebay) A single sticker that can be removed does jack #### to the price.

Yeah, you really made your point clear. I didn't either think that the sticker would make it worth anything, just wondered if there was any other differences.. Or if anyone sees that these '96 ones would be collectable because of the Fender anniversary. A companys 50yrs history could be celebrated even more harder than glueing additional stickers to their products! 😆

I've had it like that for some time and I'm kinda used to play it though. I also can crush golf balls by squuzing them in my hand. Maybe that has something to do with playing this guitar? 😆 Nice reactions caused by the pic, people are laughing their asses off or pulling their hair etc.. I didn't know it was that much high.

Yes, I'm whining about the intonation in another topic. Help is appreciated to get the guitar setup alright.. I think I just got a hint where to start fixing the "problem". 🙄

Can't determine if the action on your guitar is low or not... Have you got any pics from that end of the neck where the pickups are?

you just can't expect to fret a guitar with the action that high and have it sound like it's in tune.... not if you play past the 3rd fret anyway.

Yes, I know that now too... 😆 Maybe there should be some limits for the setup actions in the Jag-Stang Set Up Tips section of this Jag-Stang.com, so people who haven't had so many guitars wouldn't setup (and f**kup) their guitars like I did back then. 😕
