My serial number doesn't fit the format... could it be fake?

Hello everyone! I really need some help! I was trying to figure out what year my Jag-Stang was made, and when I found the chart with the serial numbers, it said that ones that fit the "V + 6 Digits" format were made 1997-1998. But it also says that if it begins by saying "Crafted in Japan" it is a newer issued one. But mine says Crafted in Japan AND the serial number begins with a V. Does that mean it was made in 1997 or what? When I typed it in the thing to look it up it said that it didn't fit the right format, but when I chose the "MADE in Japan" option and typed it in it worked. I would GREATLY appreciate it if someone could help me out with this!!

Well, you might have a crossover model. The last MIJ ones had the V+6 format, then they switched to CIJ but it'd seem they did that before reverting to A+6. I doubt it's a fake, and even so it's just the neck. What's the full S/N, and could you post images of the neck itself?

I wouldn't worry too much, it's probably nothing serious, like I say it could be a crossover.

yes it does. they started using "crafted in japan" in '97

Thanks for the quick responses! I am pretty sure its not a fake now, just a '97 model, which sounds about right cause I was thinking it was a '98 but close enough! I appreciate your help guys! 😀

Why would anyone see fit to fake a JS anyway? Maybe in 30 years or so when they are perceived as antiques and Kurt's cult status is even bigger than it is now...
