A bit on how I set my trem up for whammy use.

Maybe E-bay, otherwise, I think replacement springs for Mustang trems are one of those parts like the Bronco bridge that I would love to see brought to the aftermarket. Kahlers have a ton of different springs, Mustang trems should have em' too. Not everyone likes to play with 009's or the same bar tension.

Yeah, just last time I set my tension high, I managed to crumple the knife edge ☹

I filed it to round it off the other day and it is fine right now. Also I am considering using a tap and die to make the arm screw in, you can hear it rattling around all the time which is really annoying.

I am still having the problem of not enough spring tension and too much string tension so I can pull up, but I can't divebomb, plus the #### bar is touching the pixkguard.

I recently put on some fender 009s.....what can I do? 😕😕

No, if you like bogner, you ask shiva (bogner shiva) But he'll probably just destroy it and tell you to get a new guitar, but brahman (fender) won't re-issue the jagstang 🙄

For spring tension, you just insert a hex wrench into the two smaller holes on the cigar tube on the back of the vibrato unit. The closer the tailpiece is to the plate, the more spring tension is applied. Also, there are two notches in the bottom of the bridge legs, you can move the springs up to the topmost leg. Also, make sure the springs are not falling off, I crimp em' with pliars to make sure they don't. That is a problem I've encountered.

Yeah, done that, but if I have the cigar thing lower, then it won't do divebombs or devent pullups. And the springs aren't falling off but they are making a racket through the amp so they will need sorting. I think EB strings have less tension than fender so I'll just buy a set of those

It's worth a try. I still think there's something funny there, either that or maybe it's a CIJ and something changed from the MIJ to CIJ guitars vibrato wise that I'm not aware of. Could also be that the pivots are not sitting on the proper spot on the bars. There's a groove around both of the tension rods going through the plate that sit on the knife edged holes in the plate. Sometimes they tend to slip low till the threads are resting on the knife edge, which really can be a problem. It can be hard to see without looking kind of closely at it.

And I think your guitar has two settings for the spring (the grooves at the bottom of the post) but mine has three.

And I checked that the knife edge is not on the threads, It happened once and I used the vibrato and there was a BOOM and the cigar was at a sharp angle 😆 That was the day I brought it to school to show it off to a friend (gilmourish) and that put him off it for good ☹

Now there's a technical difference I've never heard of before. Problem could be you have the springs on the highest rung (closest to the plate) of the pivot posts. The higher the rung, the tighter the tension with less screw depth....

This is really making me want to find another Jag-Stang with a vibrato like yours, sounds like an improvement in my book actually.

Yeah, a good idea before going off to show off is to make sure what you have will work when you get there.

Also I have problems with dirt collecting in the lube really easily, possibly because the routes are full of sand and sawdust

Confidence is another factor. I've never done any guitar repairs or set ups before and i don't want to go steaming in all guns blazing and end up with bits everywhere and an unplayable guitar.

haha been there done that, its definitely a better idea to just live with it if you dont feel comfortable with your skills because to this day im missing like 4 or 5 screws from my early exploration of taking the mustang apart, and i messed the trem plate up pretty badly on the underside with some needle nose pliers

I've just done it, sort of, kind of a tinkering rather than a full on overhaul but it seems better.

I'll have another go sometime.

Just got to solve the other problem with it now.

I'd talk about that only i might get accussed of thread jerking, whatever the hell that means.

Yeah just make sure the routes aren't coated it ####. Thats why my stang trem still goes out of tune. this is why floyd rose don't get dirty - they don't have a reservoir of dust underneath the crucial pivot point
