sonic blue vs. daphne blue

I find that it is hard to tell the difference between these two colors. I noticed the recent thread about the sonic blue mustang, but was wondering how a daphne blue in similar lighting compared. I have heard the daphne is darker, with possibly a slight shade of green in it? Anyone have side-by-side photos to compare?

Also, do the CIJ sonic blue mustangs come with the red tort pickgard?

Sonic blue is actually the darker of the two, and is a bit more green. Side by side, the difference is obvious, but in pictures not so much.

CIJ sonic blue Mustangs now come with brown tort pickguards.

Actualy according to a Fender paint chart Daphne blue is the darker of the two,as is the same on some automotive color charts ive seen.

I prefer daphne,but thats cause i got a 66 dbl mustang,hence im biased.

Half of its green from the nitro anyway,looks cool.

I don't know about any color charts, but putting my SB Mustang next to my friends DB Strat, the SB is darker.

I agree with LIFE, Daphne Blue is brighter then Sonic Blue I think.

Maybe the OLB or a vintage aged LPB, but those bright Japanese LPBs are absolutly terrible.

as far as sonic and daphne goes,im not totaly sure whats what, my daphne is quite dark,its also half green from the nitro clear coat.

anyone got both daphne and sonic cij's of the same year to compare?

Your daphne blue is probably just darker due to it having forty years of age on the finish. It was probably much lighter in the begining. Although vintage sonic blue Jags I've seen are always much lighter than vintage daphne blue 'stangs...so maybe the colors have changed over time. I'm looking at my Mustang next to a daphne blue Strat right now, and the Mustang is WAY darker.

well you know Fender did respray guitars over and over sometimes so I guess depending on what they did to the said guitar the top coat my be darker, I.E.-If you have a jaguar and the undercoat of that jag is Dakota Red but it was resprayed Daphne Blue or Lake Placid Blue it will have a difference as if your jag was white and sprayed LBB or DB it would be lighter.

i just bought a japanese mg65-86 which is the the reissue model they have in the states...i see my daphne blue side by side with a sonic blue jagstang in japland. I would say the daphne looks better...its more of a baby blue sky blue with little or no green tone, the sonic gots some green tone...and about the vintage...its probably turned green cause it's so old. I have a olympic white mustang vintage 65 its more of cream color now.
