Yeah, there's two types of 5 string bass, the type which has an extra low B, giving you the ability to go lower than normal, or the type which has an extra high B, giving you the ability to go higher, I wanted the fredom of both, so I'm making this. It's not an EADGBE like the Fender bass VI.
I like to have a good spread between the strings near the bridge on my bass because it's easier to get your fingers in there, so the wide neck feels great to me. I obviously haven't tried it with strings on mind you, but it doesn't feel stupidly big to me, and logically, I'm not going to be using the low B much beyond 12th frett.
The only thing making me nevous about it is setting up the dual truss rods, but because the neck is so wide and has the extreem tension of the two extra stings it stands to reason that it would need them.
