Jazzmaster Sound

Hi everybody, I recently fall in love with the nicest guitar in the world: the Jazzmaster. Since I have never played it I would like to know if it's really possible to use it also for jazz music (I don't want a Wes Montgomery sound, just a warm one) and rock.

Anyone can tell me where I could find audio clips for Jazz and Jag.

I've been playing jazz since my mid-teens (I'm not far off 40) and my main guitar during most of that time has been the Jazzmaster.

The thing I love about it is that as well as sounding mellow it has a brightness that you just don't get from Gibsons etc, so it cuts through nicely and has a unique tone.

Unfortunatelly I don't have any clean samples handy, but here's proof you can play jazz with them:

I couldn't understand how is it possible that a guitar named "Jazzmaster" is not played by any jazz guitarist! Probably no one has so much courage to be out of the main stream. Why should I play jazz on a 5.000 $ Gibson when I can play it on a (great) Jazzmaster fantastic also for rock, blues and anything else? The only limit is probably our mind and our lack of imagination.

The Jazzmaster really is not very jazzy. Not that you couldn't be different and play jazz with it, hell I play jazz on a Mustang. Most jazz musicians are very traditional though, and want to sound like jazz does. Also, many jazz guitarists want to sound like a trumpet, or as close as a guitar gets, and a big sustaining jazz box does this much better than any Fender.

Ok...but who cares about being traditional? Not me! I prefer to innovate and to use my fantasy. Thank you my friend, one more reason to get a Jazzmaster!

Most jazz cats. That's just how it is with them. Go ahead and be the stand out though, it only makes you sweet.

Too true! Many moons ago I studied music and virtually all the guitarists on the course p*ssed themselves laughing when my Jazzmaster came out of the gigbag (this was the late 80s when Levinsons, trems that dropped till the strings were flat against the fretboard and big hair were all the rage). Ok, it's metalic blue/purple which doesn't help, but I wiped the smiles off their faces when they heard it: all of them remarked that the tone was killer. They still continued to play their hollow boxes though, which sounded flat and lifeless to me...their loss!

No kidding, imagine how I feel. I'm in a music school right now, with teachers like Frank Gambale, Brad Rasbuchin, and most of the kids are jazz heads. Most popular musicians around here are Miles Davis, John Coltrane, John Scofield, etc. I play a Mustang and a Bronco.
