Hey all. New here and first time Jagstang owner. Also, getting back into guitar since 2004…
I recently purchased a new Jagstang reissue and noticed I had tons of buzzing going on. I went through a plethora of troubleshooting starting from my electrical outlets in my house to the amp, to the pedals and eventually got to the guitar. I tested continuity between controls and switches and eventually tested continuity between the jack and strings/bridge and didn’t get any tone. I ended up taking off the controls assembly, pickguard and bridge and compared to a wiring diagram found here.
I immediately noticed I had no ground wire going to the bridge lug. There was a hole drilled to that cavity but no wire soldered onto the volume pot. I ended up soldering a new wire to the volume pot and ran the wire to the cavity and wedged it between the lug. Put everything back together and the buzz was gone.
I still get a bit of buzz from the neck pickup and tested continuity between the pickup adjustment screws and the strings/bridge but don’t get any tone. I do get tone when I check the humbucker to the strings/bridge though and no buzz when I am on the bridge pickup only.
Is this normal or is there a chance the neck pickups don’t have grounding as well? I know single coils are a bit noisier but I wanted to check since I’ve already experienced some other issues. Pretty sad to pay this much money for a new guitar and deal with these issues. I assume I probably voided the warranty with the soldering… I could technically desolder and return it to the place of purchase as I still have a few weeks to return it but I’m also afraid I’m just going to get another messed up Jagstang so I figured I’d just fix it.
Thanks for any help!
Cheers!
