  1. If you are thinking of buying a guitar simply because you have "never owned one before", then you are buying it for the wrong reason. I've never owned a Gretsch While Falcon, but I'm not going to buy one just because I've never owned one. I almost bought a Squier CV Duo-Sonic a few months ago just because I didn't have a guitar of that shape, but then I realized that I hate the necks on the CV series, and I bought a Deluxe Strat instead and couldn't be happier with it. I'm so happy with it, I'm leaving it totally stock, which is rare for me. My advice is take your time, go to the guitar store and play a few of all varieties, and fall in love with one.

  3. WHY IS THAT RELEVANT?!?!?!?!?!?! ok seriously I dun even know who you're yelling at, but shut up, we're trying to be helpful and apparently you have some problem that you're not even telling us. if you want it to stay in tune better do Mad-Mike's trem setup or do the hardtail mod that I did. The way strings feed is irrelevant. DON'T FREAKING YELL ABOUT THINGS THAT DON'T FREAKING MAKE SENSE OR THAT DON'T HAVE A FREAKING POINT! or better yet you could sell your jag-stang and buy a guitar that works for you since you weren't having the best of luck with your jag-stang last time you were on here either.

  4. Yup! If I was going to swap out all the electronics anyways, why not start with the base model? As far as I am concerned alderwood is alderwood and necks tend to vary mostly by radius, length, and frets. How much you paid for it generally doesn't seem to feel different from playing with $2,000-$3,000 guitars and $100 ones. It is about how the guitar feels to you and sounds to you. I think people look at the stuff that their favorite musicians play and think they have to have that guitar to emulate that sound. While that is somewhat true, it doesn't mean you can't use a entry strat or tele to perform songs originally performed on Les Pauls. Great players can make most anything sound good. Buy a guitar that sounds and feels right and fits your budget.

  11. Sorry to double post but I have a little update. I am starting to realize that fender short scales are an addiction.... I was loving messing around with the squier mustang I posted and had an itch to go for the real thing. I found a 1996 MIJ mustang on craigslist for a very fair price from a super nice guy, so I had to go for it... Sorry for the poor quality pic. Right now, I am really enjoying it as is. In the future, I may have the headstock painted/re-decaled, may swap out the fast tracks (previous owner had installed) for the zexcoil juicy bucker and replace the neck pickup with a zexcoil throaty bucker and may throw on a white peraloid pickguard. I am also considering a mastery bridge but for now, the stock bridge is pretty solid. Depends how much sustain I can get by swapping the pickups. God I love this guitar.

  16. Maybe one of the soldering points came loose? I would open it up and reflow each connection and see if that helps. Also try different cables to make sure it wasn't an amp or cable issue.

  20. Hi, I haven't been posting much lately. The forum has been dead, and I havn't been guitaring much. But I had to see what people think of the 'Pawn Shop' series. Seems that Fender is becoming more like Squier all the time. No new designs, just more bastardized versions of old favourites. But great to see the return of the mighty 51!!!

  22. FYI the first one isn't a Blacktop, it's just a Japanese HH, so it's priced pretty much correctly. Get the second one. Way more versatile instrument.

  23. Also, Cobain was murdered, he wasn't suicidal! He was a joker, he liked to tell white lies and mislead the media. Most of his best friends say he wasn't suicidal, HE said he wasn't suicidal, he wanted to leave that slut Love and start fresh, a new life, a new band but of course that untalented bitch (Erlandson and Cobain wrote all her best songs) wouldn't let him and had him killed so his legacy would keep her in the spotlight and very very rich! Had he just left her, today, people would very likely be like "Courtney who?" People ALWAYS believe what the media spews out, the media ALWAYS spews out lies! The SPD (Seattle Police Department) is corrupt as ####, the coroner who done the autopsy had to have had ulterior motives...like Money. Because, being an ex-Heroin addict of over 12 years myself I know how much Smack even the hardest user can take before he is completely incapacitated. There is absolutely zero fvking chance Cobain wacked that much smack and then was able to pick up a gun. Why? Simple, that much smack would have killed him to start with! Smack, when injected hits the brain instantly, not minutes later, not seconds later, but instantly. He also had Benzodiazepines in his system, which makes shooting smack a game between life and death depending on the amount of benzos. And why would anyone purposely overdose on smack, BUT shoot them self BEFORE the smack took effect??? That makes ZERO sense and that is assuming smack doesn't work instantly when in fact it does! I know it does because I have injected it thousands of times and every single time it hit instantly, that is science people, that is observable, repeatable science! Anyone that says Cobain killed himself is a narrow minded fool in my opinion, they are the same type of people that don't believe the US government assassinated Kennedy and the war in Iraq is legit! This, to me and millions of others, is what makes the loss of Cobain that much worse. He wanted to keep making music, just not as Nirvana but most importantly he wanted to LIVE and we have lost a musical genius of the modern age because of some untalented bitches greed and psychopathic tendencies towards self agrandization and fame and fortune! Say what you will, this is my opinion and as far as I'm concerned its the objective truth!

  25. I discovered this board/forum shortly after I bought my 2010 Blacktop Jaguar on (appropriately) Black Friday. The quality is frickin' unbelievable for the money. I liked it so much I had to have the Blacktop Jazzmaster too... so here you go... These are great guitars. I think the Jaguar does hard rock really, really well, but it could cover anything. The Jazzmaster has a greater tonal range and is - surprisingly, for a Fender - one of the fastest necks I've played. Just sweet and scary fast...

  26. I would wait till after christmas to see if you get more $$$ and what options that may add to the mix. I have a hard time giving guitar recommendations to anyone as we all have different preferences. Hate to fall back on this suggestion but do you have a place where you can jam on both the models you are interested in for a while? And if you can play through a setup similar to your hope setup that will help the comparison as well.

  27. Think about it. Bleach tone: Hi Flyer/that Epi Strattish thing > DS-1 > Fender Twin Nevermind tone: HH Jag/Mustang/Strat > DS-1, Small Clone, loads of overdubs > Twin/Mesa (I think?) In Utero tone: Les Paul copy (yes), Jag > Sansamp, Polychorus > No idea about amps Kurt never used the J-S that much, and for what it did well he preferred his Mustang anyway. The Jag-Stang was never a huge part of his setup.

  29. Yeah, but only the newer jagmasters. Not the Vista ones, because they where true 24 scale. But Yeah, if you get one of the newer jagmasters, you can put that neck on it and it will convert it to 24, or even put a 25.5 on the jagmaster.

  30. If I could have had something like that when I started out I woulda been stoked! All i had was a 10 watt Peavy.LOL Now, 16 years later, I have great gear and would never buy this ####, but for beginners (the intended market I assume) it seems great IMHO!

  38. Hi there, i was thinking off starting a thread about building a Jagstang 2.0. The jagstang 2.0 has a different body shape than the original Jagstang. Bought myself a fine piece of Alder to begin with. .

  39. You'll want the strat version, the neck pickup on a Jag-Stang is pretty much just a Stratocaster pickup so that is the version that will fit. Having a hot-rail means you'd have to make a decision on weather you want the old phase-reverse feature carried over from the Mustang, or a coil split. The stock wiring means you could still get that weird hollow 'conky' out of phase thing, but having a coil split means you'd have a hum and a single in the same unit, at the flick of a switch.

  41. the tiesco i got a couple weeks ago(found in a dumpster, missing parts) is amazing! i had to completely level and crown the frets and set it up and fashion a bridge out of home depot materials but its an amazing lil guitar and sounds fantastic! diff pickups, but its still a great guitar, the fretting is far superior than the newer guitars, blind fret ends and what not, the only downsides to the one i have (its a tulip model) is the pups aren't ajustable so i had to shim the neck with the neck plate just to clear the bridge pickup. and there are no side dots, the tuners are a bit on the tight side, but seeing as how they are open gear/40+ years old, its completely acceptable, and the pots and switches are completely untouched and still work just fine. it was found in a dumpster and its still nicer than a squier bullet.

  43. Jaguar The guitars are "Crafted in Indonesia" as seen in the demo...the Jaguar looks like a bastard son of the Cyclone(pickups) and the Jagmaster(overall shape and features). They should have called it the "Jag-clone" or something
