I've never played it through a solid state amplifier as i only own tube amps at the moment.

You might also want to try the Dimarzio Super Distortion S, it's the single coil sized version of the Dimarzio Super Distortion, Dimarzio also has a single coil sized version of the PAF Pro which might be a good neck pick up used in conjunction with the Super Distortion S in the bridge position.

I put lace sensors in my Mustang and I'm quite pleased with the results, put a red one in the bridge and a blue in the neck.
