  1. I recently picked up this 64 Fender Mustang and I am hoping it is what I think it is - any opinions welcome! It is a slab body, its been refinished - potentially could have been Daphne Blue before. Neck date is rubbed off but I can make out OCT - October month but can't see a year - it does have clay dots though and looks right (except the headstock was painted to match the body) Pretty sure the tremelo is original and the tuners. Its been routed weird - an extra route added between the control area and the bridge pickup - I assume that wasn't a factory thing to do - it is fitted with Noiseless pickups so I assume it was rerouted when those were put in. https://goo.gl/photos/BaqLXKKSzCuUxTHv7
  2. I have a fender 1969 reissue mustang in white and I would like to get it painted in Sonic blue. Does anyone know where to get some, I am looking for the same sonic blue that Kurt Cobain's mustang was in.
  3. Hi guys I have been in this community for a little while now, I've read all of the setup post's but I've still got unbelievably high action on my Jagstang, which if i try to lower start to get buzz and notes fretting out. I've had my JagStang since October last year and haven't got it they way I want. I've took it to a repair shop, but they didn't fix anything, just took my money. I had to go back 3 times because of problems the last being because the guy forgot to put a screw in the pickguard, so overall a terrible experience. Completely unprofessional. I've done adjustments myself, followed setup guides, replace the nut that the guy over filed. I'm at the end of my ropes with this guitar, because I love everything about it, but can't play without wanting to make it better I'm sorry if I come across as a whiny bitch, I know this is the best community for offset guitars on the internet, so if you guys can't help me I'm fu**ed. Thanks, XaG
  4. Does anyone know where to find a fender 69 reissue mustang in Sonic blue?
  5. So the tuners on my 1965 Mustang are pretty tough to turn. I watched a video on how to clean and lube them up: http://www.stewmac.com/How-To/Online_Resources/Guitar_Tuning_Machine_Installation_and_Repair_Inform/How_to_clean_and_lube_dirty_old_guitar_tuners.html and ordered all of the stuff to do it Then I went back to the guitar and figured out that, duh, the tuners on this model don’t have the holes to drip in the naphtha and lube. The question is, how do I clean these out? Can they be opened? I jiggled the peg around a bit, but did not want to force it.
  6. Hi! Im new to the forum, so, sorry if im reviving some old thread... probably yes. Ok, let´s get it started. Im about to begin with my first job (im 17) and im thinking in saving money for a really nice (offset of course) guitar, preferently humbucker-loaded. Here where i live (Argentina) is very rare to see a jagstang. Also cyclones. I dont even knew they existed. Well, the point is, this guy has these two for sale, and i just love them both. I like the jagstang, but i dont want to be seen as a Cobain poser (sorry, im doing some catarsis here). Also love the cyclone because i always wanted a mustang-shaped guitar since i was a kid who prayed to Cobain and Thurston Moore all nights before sleep (joking), but im so WHICH-ONE-SHOULD-I-PICK. My current gear (not fancy, not bad either): AMP: Fender Champion 40 GUITARS: Epiphone Wilshire Reissue, Yamaha Pacifica s102 esquireized PEDAL: Big Muff T/W So, i think that´s all. P.S.: I LOVE nirvana, I LOVE Sonic Youth, Also The Pixies are a great inspiration for me, RHCP, Cage the Elephant, Slaves, Sparklehorse, The Strokes, Jack White, and im forgetting a lot https://http2.mlstatic.com/guitarra-fender-cyclone-mexico-mustan-jaguar-jag-stang-D_NQ_NP_945011-MLA20459776220_102015-F.webp (the 98´CAR Cyclone) The sonic blue 97´ (not reissue) Jagstang Thanks!
  7. The high e on my guitar is buzzing to the point at which when i play it, it makes a clicking noise and does not last, it's slightly better on fretted notes but still noticible. How can i fix it?
  8. http://justanotherpunkblogger.tumblr.com/post/158132225931 Hi Folks! In the above picture (assuming it works) you should see my Jag-stang project. It's a Warmoth body with 70's Mustang control plate. I am posting this in the Jaguar forum because of the neck, and my suspicions regarding it's origin. I bought it for a steal, specifically because the seller could no longer definitively prove it's origin. The neck features pearl inlays, black side-fret markers, a single string tree, and vintage neck heel-access truss adjustment. The stamped date has long since been lost in a refinish... and the logo was wiped away. It looks like 70's style F tuners were the original tuning machines for this particular neck. Supposedly the head stock has been reshaped so I cannot, with confidence, use that to determine the neck's original source model. Near as I can tell, I've come across a '65. This was about the time that pearl inlays replaced clay dots, but I cannot be sure because I don't know if Fender delayed putting binding on these same necks until sometime after introducing the pearl inlays. Can anyone shed some like on whether any other guitar model years might fit my neck's description? Please let me know if the link worked, and more pictures of the neck are ready if it did. It is a very old feeling neck, and I am proud to own it regardless of origin, but I would very much like to be certain of where it came from, even if I cannot prove it. Thanks! Grungemaestro
  9. I'm soon getting a squier vintage moddified mustang and I'm planing on routing it for a humbucker in the bridge but how would I know exactly where to put it? So that it would be the right tone and aftermarket humbucker pickguards would fit it? Please help.
  10. http://imgur.com/a/jT7LY i bought this Mustang look a like from some guy a few weeks ago but i wanna mod it already. the switches on the wing are not the mustang type wings. they are just on/off switches. i want to buy mustang switches to get the out of phase sound you get from mustang when you set it to that setting. the problem is that i dont know if it would work or if the mustang is built in a unique way to support the switches out of phase setting.
  11. I recently bought a Squier Vm mustang and it plays great when the two pickups are On and in the same direction, but if only one pickup is on or if the two are out of phase, there is some buzzing. When I listen closely it seems the buzz is still there when the two pickups are on but its very quiet. It just gets louder when I only one pickup is on, and even louder if both are out of phase! Should I shield my guitar? I know I'm probably going to change the bridge soon but the sound I hear is not the bridge it has something to do with the pickups.
  12. Don't know if anyone else heard about this: http://www.fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0302200540 I'm definitely interested in this.
  13. Hello, I am looking to upgrade the pickups in my 1976 fender mustang, I love how it plays and wouldn't trade it for anything but I'm not entirely satisfied with the original pickups. I play almost entirely rhythm, and am looking for something that'll make the chords shine with highs and lows and give me the power I need for twangy riffs. Really I would like anyone who's changed their mustang's pickups to give their opinion of what brands and models I should think about. I want them to have the same plastic covers and I'm not afraid to pay for high end. I play rockabilly style music with 60's influences.
  14. Alright I've spent about 3 hours searching the web trying to find a left handed mustang. The only ones I've found are the $1,200 Cobain mustangs. I've heard you have to buy them Japan. I find them on ebay for, also, around $1,200 but see right handed ones for around $700. Does anybody know where I can look / have links to Japanese sites that sell lefty / any ideas. I'm down to spend $700-$800. Please let me know if you have any insight, this is my dream guitar. Thanks for the help, Sterling
  15. I recently acquired a NoHo Mercury. Any info? Pics here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/221127027882?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1586.l2649 Thanks
  16. I've got a Fender Jaguar I'm looking into modding. I'm planning to put two humbucking pickups into it, but have them coil tapped with out of phase. I would go for the Push Pull knobs, but I'm happy with the standard pots the Jaguar comes with and not planning to do that. I rather like the idea of two three way switches wired up for coil-tap/out of phase like the Pawnshop mustang. I have all the parts I need to get working on it. Just need help in terms of Electronics/schematics since I'm not sure where to wire what to where etc. I've had a look around on the internet for schematics, but I'm still confused to the wires would go. I basically got Got a Ken Custom Fender Jaguar (basically a fancy Classic MIM Jag) [standard Jag Schematics] Two humbucking Pickups with 4 way braids Two Three-Way Mustang Switches Additional wires if needed Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  17. I new to the community and I am preparing to change my first set of pickups in my new Mustang, but from the spec sheets I found online it looks a little confusing with all of the phase switching wires inside. Ultimately, I'm wondering do I even bother with those other wires or just focus on disconnecting the old pickup solder points and reconnect the new pickup wires to those old solder points? Any photos, instructions, drawn diagrams, or anything will be much appreciated. Thanks.
  18. About a month ago I got my hands on a few knocks here and there Competition Stripe Mustang in Old Lake Placid Blue. I've read on some sites that Fender only had the Compo Stripes from 2002-2003 in the west or something like that. I've seen pictures of past auctions and shops selling the same guitar but I've seen some dated at 1999 and even 2004. First thing I would like to know is that how long this model of Mustang was in production for and have I managed to get myself a great find or even a collectors item?
  19. I recently got a vm mustang at my local shop, and decided to mod it! Put a JB in the bridge position, 500k pots, and a TOM. I basically made a KC stang. I want to put a red comp neck in too. Pics to come!
  20. Hello all. I'm hoping for some wiring assistance. Here's the scoop: CIJ RI Fender Mustang. 2004 approx. Current pups are single coils, don't think they are stock though. I am the second owner, looks like previous owner installed staggered single coils (brand unknown, both neck & bridge read 5.8K on the back of the pup). I am replacing the bridge pickup with a Seymour Duncan Lil' Screamin' Demon single-coil sized humbucker. I also picked up CTS 500K pots (audio taper). One of them is push/pull. The tone cap I have to install is .022uF. I am looking to wire it for the following switch settings: (headstock------tailpiece) -0- -0- both pickups off -0- 0-- bridge on (forward) -0- --0 bridge on (back) 0-- -0- neck on (forward) --0 -0- neck on (back) 0-- 0-- both pups on, in phase --0 --0 both pups on, in phase 0-- --0 both pups on, out of phase --0 0-- both pups on, out of phase My aim is to have the push/pull as the tone pot. Pushed in, humbucker, pulled out single coil. So for the aforementioned settings, the settings with both pickups would be bridge as humbucker when pushed. Then bridge as single coil when pulled. And with the bridge-only pup setting, the same push/pull controls. I want the out of phase settings to be humcanceling, regardless of humbucker/single coil push/pull. Is this possible? I can't seem to find a wiring diagram for this specifically. Does anyone have a simpler idea to achieve these (or comparable) settings? Thanks!
  21. Thought this would be interesting if someone wanted to mode their on mustang you wouldnt have to go through Warmoth... http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/msd/4019344180.html
  22. Hey guys...first timer here so be gentle. Thanks. So my Mustang (CIJ, '04-05, w/ n&b alnico single coils) isn't giving me much from the volume knob. Specifically, 90% of the volume is in the first o'clock that I turn. At max volume, with one slight o'clock turn down it becomes drastically quieter. Turn the knob lower than that and (it's not silent but) it is not at a feasible playing volume. (This problem occurs when I am playing clean and/or through my LPB-1 [clean boost]. When I engage my Big Muff, the volume knob is more reactive and lets me clean up the fuzz.) Do I need to replace the pot? If so, what type of pot? Could it be a wiring issue? Is thems just the CIJ breaks? Something else in my chain maybe (I have done extensive troubleshooting to isolate the issue)? Sorry to say, but I don't know the pots that are currently in there. I bought the Mustang second-hand; I'm guessing the pots are factory-issue. They look split-shaft, like a Tele I once had. Thanks for any advice. I'd like to be able to service my own equipment, instead of running to the shop and dropping dough every time I need some repair/adjustment. But I am stumped here.
  23. 24. Hi all! Long long time lurker (since i was a long haired teen lol) Got a Fender Mustang Japan '04-05 Reissue way back in 2005 just after my first student loan in my 2nd year! This guitar made the rest of my uni life hard with no money but i always loved this guitar, was on a bus and went past Steel City guitars, saw it in the window and instantly fell in love ;D. So after uni it kinda got left alone. I am expecting to be a dad soon and want to learn lots more songs to play to the little 'un so out comes the mustang, as first i looked up its value on the net as i wanted to sell it to get a nice acoustic... but in my searches i found myself back on this website (after a long break) and seeing all the nice guitars here i fell in love the 'stang all over again... So this time I'm keeping her! She really needs setting up so i have been looking over the guides but then i noticed this cracking around the base of the neck (is this damage normal? is it really bad?)... Please help was really shocked when i found it! Cheers
  25. thought this could be a good idea for a thread. What was your latest NGD and what did you get? (photos )
