I have this friend who has this Epiphone Les Paul (a good one). he's thinking about changing one of the pickups for a Gibson Les Paul pickup (maybe a Gibson Burstbucker Pro) to make his les paul sound like a Gibson LEs Paul. But one problem ifs that he has a crappy Fender 15watt frontman amp. You guys think he'll get a better sound if he does that or will his sound still be ####ty? :-hmmm

it will sound like a gibson would through a crap amp. the gibson sound is not created by simply plugging a gibson into any crap amp, so its a stupid idea. people get caught up in their guitars, when the amp is really the most important part of a rig.

Exactly and that is why he should buy an Orange amp, to get the best guitar tone possible. :-cool

To me it depends upon the source of the sound problem. More times than not it's the Amplifier though if it comes down to tibre issues from what I've experienced first hand. A lot of those practice amps like the Frontman series are designed to cover a wide range of styles, and therefore are middle of the road compared to a purpose built amp design like a super clean Twin or a super dirty Boogie.
