Hello from Keeley Electronics

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

My name is Benjamin and I am a designer at Keeley Electronics, a renowned effects pedal manufacturer. I've played Fender Mustang's and Jaguar's for years and grew up during the formative time when Nirvana was changing the face of modern music. Some of my favorite bands include: My Bloody Valentine, Radiohead, Can, Other Lives, etc.

My background in music is inextricably linked with a passion for electronics. I've had the pleasure of designing and modding some of the coolest gear in the world. As such, I'm humbled to be a part of a stellar community and I am entirely at your service for any technical questions, mod suggestions or product information!

Shoot me a line if you have any questions at all!

Cheers!

Benjamin

welcome! i asked about something on here a while ago, but got no response, probably 'cause its an odd mod. is there any way to get more feedback from a flanger? ive got a rocktron hypnotic flange, and its so lovely n lush, real quiet n transparant, but is more of a very heavy chorus really. i posted a thread called 'flanger modding', cant be more than a page or two back from here. what ya think? ive since bought an onerr hydrogen flanger too, but theyre both so different in character, i think modding the hypnoflange would still interest me.

Spirograph,

There certainly should be a way to get more feedback from it. A lot of it will depend upon whether the pedal is SMT, digital, digital/analog hybrid or through-hole 100% analog. I'm familiar with Rocktron, but not this particular unit. Is there anyway you could snap a shot of the pcb? If it's limited by a gate or a potentiometer value, you could certainly get more feedback out of it. Through-hole boxes are the simplest to tweak due to the ample pad space and usually relatively large traces inherent in that design. SMT can get tricky because of the need for a hot air rework station. Digital can be done, but usually involves replacement or programming of a microprocessor. Think arduino. ; )

Hope this helps a bit and shoot a pic of the inside if you can!

I want to have control the volume of each individual pickup... so each pickup has its own volume pot. thanks so much!

This is certainly doable, but you might get some noise issues. I've known guys to take a 3 humbucker LP and run individual volumes with a common ground and then an overall master volume to blend the middle pickup. It's great but noisy. Let me knock some work out and I'll shoot you a schematic!

thanks for your reply. i dont have a camera atm, so no pics yet. i lent it to a friend n i cant get hold of her. i trust her tho, i will see it again soon im sure. and i dont have a phone either! (im a bit of a luddite).

by smt, do you mean suface mounted? im pretty sure it aint, and it certainly aint digital. i tried to get into it once before, but didnt have the tool to get the pots removed from the case, and its got the components on the side i couldnt see.

Welcome to the forum. Cool that someone from Keeley has joined us. We seem to have a few "celebrity" members on here now when it comes to pedal builders, Aen from Dwarfcraft has an account and I'm pretty sure Devi Ever has as well. Haven't seen either of them post in years though.

thank you so much! (and my bo diddly style square guitar takes one step further into becoming functional. I just need paint, neck, pickguard, and everything else besides a body lol.)

Thanks for the welcome! Devi Ever's gear is right up the 8 bit crushed fuzz alley. : ). I've lurked for a little while and have always been a fan of Mustang's/Jaguar's. Thought I'd take the plunge! Thanks again!
