HNB 56
I picked up a Jag-Stang body. It is two piece alder with a swimming pool rout. It was made by TK Custom Guitars. I couldn't pass it up for the price I got it for second hand. Thinking of doing this Metallic K. O. Picture! IMG_0355 by Hentai No Baka, on Flickr
HNB 56
Body arrived. Looks nice. It has a US neck pocket vs Japanese one. HNB 56
It has contours, but not Fender ones. Much higher on the back and the front contour is way more subtile. HNB 56
Applied stain. It is looking good. Tonight I will lightly sand it and see if I want to do a second coat or if this is enough. I like it. HNB 56
It is minwax dark walnut. I wanted normal, but they didn't have it in stock. It will be darker than the Costello, but that is ok with me. I sanded the top lightly to take off some of the stain and show the wood and then did another coat to brown it back up. Sanded. HNB 56
I decided to do Z Poxy and Poly as a clear coat. I wanted the gold aspect that Z Poxy adds to the body color. Before I did it though, I checked parts and it all looks good. (Aside from the pickguard issue I mentioned.) Bridge holes line up fine. HNB 56
I did my first coat of Z Poxy on the back. Coming along! DSC05826 by Hentai No Baka, on Flickr DSC05827 by Hentai No Baka, on Flickr DSC05828 by Hentai No Baka, on Flickr Oh, here is the modified template I made for my pickguard. It is basically a Mustang guard with a steeper curve at the lower horn to match the Jag-Stang shape a bit better. DSC05825 by Hentai No Baka, on Flickr

HNB 56
So happy accident/odd event happened as I sanded the Z Poxy flat. The Z Poxy caused the grain to rise. This caused some of the stain to sand off as I leveld the body creating a sort of zebra look to the guitar. At first I was a little pissed when it was one spot, but as I finished the front and back, I kind of dig it. Much more dramatic. HNB 56
When damp, the contrast is more subtile so I am expecting it will not be as stark when clear coated. johnnykazz 13
I also dig the "zebra" effect it decided to take haha. I'm sure people would have varied opinions, but the unique factor of the stain is a fingerprint of a guitar finish; no one else will have that

HNB 56
First coat of clear. I am very pleased with how the color is looking. johnnykazz 13
Looks ####ing great man. You should start making these guitars for profit man. With all of the connections on these forums and the others I've seen you on, you could basically start your own guitar building business. It's something you love to do and you could work from home and still be able to support yourself and loved ones. He's right, everything you touch looks ####ing incredible, and everybody and their mother loves modded offsets. Just a thought, if you like doing it for the personal pleasure and enjoyment only, more power to you dude! Either way, that finish is killer!
HNB 56
The rough thing is this sort of stuff doesn't sell well on ebay. People there want stuff stock and factory made. Hand built guitars peers of mine have built never sell there and there stuff is loads better than mine.
johnnykazz 13
I see. Well at least you have insight on how well things are selling then haha. I have no idea anything about building guitars or the market for them. Can't wait to see this one finished. Is the mini humbucker a Firebird or just a mini-hum with a solid cover? HNB 56
The guy I got it from thought it was a GFS or Eastwood mini humbucker. Should be fun to try out.
johnnykazz 13
The guy I got it from thought it was a GFS or Eastwood mini humbucker. Should be fun to try out. Both of the companies make a great sounding mini hum. Probably GFS. Although I have absolutely no clue, I am not sure that Eastwood sells a solid cover mini hum separately. If it is an Eastwood, that'd be cool, as it probably would have come out of an H44 clone or the Wandre DLX clone.
