Pickups for Jaguar Special HH

Recommended Posts

I recently bought a MIM Jaguar Special HH. Its a cool guitar with good tone and i'm happy with it except for two things:

-  The strings behind the bridge buzz but i've ordered a Buzzstop so i hope this works.  Any opinions on this?

-  I'd like to replace one of the Humbuckers to have the option of a more solid rock (even metal) sound.  Any suggestions for this change?

thanks for your help

As far as the humbucker goes, it's really about personal preference. If you don't plan on playing clean, something like the Seymour Duncan Invader is a nice distortion pickup. Unless you have it coil tapped or split, it tends to have a "dirty" tone to it.

If I was you, I'd look on YouTube at different pickups and see which ones fit you.

I have put Dimarzio, Duncan, GFS and kept stock pickups in my guitars. I like to have variety.

Side note with GFS pickups, they are cheap and are made really well. I have been very impressed with them.

Good luck in the search!

I just purchased the same guitar last week. Awesome guitar but the bridge rattled, wouldn't stay in tune and the pickups aren't that great. Yesterday I changed out the bridge for a graph Tech resomax and a graphite nut. No more string buzz. Also put Seymour Duncan pickups in it. SH-2 in the neck and a SH-4 JB in the bridge. Totally different guitar now.

So, I am trying to build a mustang with the same specs that Kurt's had at the 1993 show at the Roseland Ballroom. I was wondering if he used at JB JR, Hot rails or did he just use a JB Humbucker?

      Hello everyone
I have a squier jaguar with duncan designed sensors.
I want to make a cheap mod pickup.
I want to replace the stock magnets with alnico 5 or alnico 2.
Tell me whether it is worth it to do?
Is there a difference in the diameter of the magnets of the stratocaster pickups?

Long story shor: I was replacing the stock "Duncan Designed" pickup covers and switching them for Fender Aged White ones. To my surprise the stock pickup covers were glued on. The neck pup cover came off without too much trouble, however, the bridge pup was damaged in the process. I took it to my local tech and he says the coil is damaged and recommends getting a new pickup vs rewinding them.
Honestly the stock bridge pup (Model JM-101B) was just a little to shrill for my personal taste. I could get an ok tone when rolling the tone knob down but then switching between pickups is a pain in the ass because the neck would be really super muddy. I love the stock neck pickup (Model: JM-101N) My question is: Is there another pickup anybody can recommend that is just a tad mellower without having a big difference in output? I'd like to keep the neck pickup if I could. I've been trying to compare and contrast online but can't really find any spec info on the JM-101B and JM-101N vs other models. All I know is they have Alnico 5 Magnets.
Can anybody help with this topic? Any advice would be great.

Everyone I'm trying to rebuild the Jagstang if it were to have the best parts.
A Jagstag we wish they would make
This is what I have done so far
CTS Left Handed 250K Audio Pot
      Switchcraft White On-Off-On Slide Switch
      Copper Shielding Tape
      Cloth Wire Kit
Switchcraft #11 Gold 1/4" Input Jack
.047 MFD 600V Orange Drop Capacitors
Real Texas single Special pickup USA
      dimarzio pickup H-8
the last thing I need to do is get and I don't have is
real mustang knobs (the ones that come with are too small and dont fit the pots shafts)
      String guide
I will a get a pro to do the set up below
Mastery Bridge (i have to order)
      Bone nut
      Right now
its heavier but feels more solid than a practice toy guitar it was
way more sustain with the 8 h pickup
did a record compare with old and with this new set up. Surprised diff was in the bottom and not the top
Its sounds warmer not so harsh. Clean is super clean
You can see diff in size orginal to CTS left pots
I bought a new lefty pick guard from a  guy who makes them in England and sells them on ebay
its 3 ply vs 2 ply from Japan so its nicer. Fits perfect.
Big cap.... Its pretty tight in there..whew!
Wondering if I wired this wrong as I copied the orginal and the pots were right handed. These are lefty so the vol rolls very fast
Copper shielding----- No humming at all
      Tell me what you think?
Its been a pet project as the lefties are so rare.
This is a cork sniffer Jagstang as there is no dings or scratches. I paid top for it as it was not like new but put in a closet and left there for years. The one thing its not is MIJ is CIJ 96
tried to put the images but said  I couldnT?
