Today Fender has announced a new range of vintage inspired Mexican made guitars. The models represented in this new range are the Stratocaster®, Telecaster®, Jaguar®, Mustang®, Jazzmaster®, Jazz Bass®, Precision Bass® and Mustang Bass and the decades represented are the 50s, 60s, and 70s. The prices range from $899.99 to $1149.99. (US Dollars)
The guitars that jag-stang.com visitors will most likely be interested in are the 60s Jaguar, 60s Mustang, and 60s Jazzmaster. (see photos in this post)
There are also ‘modified’ versions of the 60s Jaguar (2 humbuckers and modern neck shape and radius) and the 60s Jazzmaster (modern neck shape and radius).
The auction has now closed and the Fiesta Red prototype jag-stang has a winning bid of $93,750.
The Kurt Cobain Fender Jag-Stang Fiesta Red prototype is currently up for auction at Julien’s Auctions. This is part of a “Music Icons 2018 Auction Lot” with some other guitars and music related collectibles.
There are not any detailed photos included in the listing of the prototype jag-stang. Provenance is provided by “Fender Museum of the Arts Foundation”. The prototype apparently has a serial number of V069200 on the neckplate which is different than regular production jag-stangs that have the serial number on the base of the neck above the neck joint.
Also included in the auction is the design drawing done by Kurt for the Jag-Stang.
If anyone comes across more details of the prototype in this auction let us know!
If you’re a fan of alternative guitars you will probably like this guitar just announced by Fender at Summer NAMM. It’s an Ed O’Brien Stratocaster featuring Seymour Duncan JB Jr, Texas Special, and Fernandes Sustainer pickups.
New to the Fender Jaguar or just want to learn more about all those switches? Fender recently published an article detailing how the switches work with some nice images showing the various switch combinations.
Could the Jag-Stang be coming back in 2017? Maybe to join the new DuoSonics and Mustangs just released by Fender?
A little over a week ago Fender had an event an their new Hollywood location. Some photos came out of that event showing a unique jag-stang. Having black switches, a better fitting pickguard, a new color?, and who knows what else.
Below are a couple of photos showing the new jag-stang. The first photo was posted by otisserie on Instagram and the second photo posted by Fender on Facebook. You really have to zoom in on the Fender event photo and look at the guitars on the back wall near the new duosonics and mustangs. (look for the white-ish jag-stang nearby)
EDIT: Updated to include more photos from Fender Hollywood Grand Opening Event that show the jag-stang.
“In order to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Mustang guitar, Fender is proud to introduce the celebratory Limited Edition American Shortboard Mustang. This stylish homage to the original Mustang evokes the spirit that brought the guitar from the classroom to the stage.”
