Tune-O-Matic... im actually doing it... need more help.

Ok, so i bought a tune-o-matic bridge and i wanna put it on my jagstang. After drilling into the body, i was able to fit the bridge, but I have no idea how im supposed to put the tail piece on. The screws for it dont line up with the cavities in the body or the holes on the metal piece that says "Fender Dynamic Vibrato"... could I just drill that too? How to i get it to fit through the metal piece?

You shouldn't have to drill holes or fit tailpieces to simply replace the bridge with a T-O-M.

So why didn't you just buy the other T-O-M that slips right in?

What do you mean by fitting the tailpeice? Do you mean a stoptail? Or the tailplate for the Mustang vibrato?

Yeah basically, the only thing i wanna know is if its possible to keep the "Fender Dyanmic Vibrato" plate to stay on it, or if it has to stay off...

if it does have to stay off, i can just drill in the wood to insert the stop piece in there right? And can i put wood filler in the cavity that sticks out and paint over it, or do u recommend leaving the cavity there?

And how far should the tailpiece be from the part of the bridge with the saddles?

Well you could drill right through the tailplate and into the body to fit the stoptail, but it would have two extra holes and would probably look a bit ####ty. I'd recommend filling the cavities and leaving the tailplate off, but then you'd have to repaint the guitar as well to cover up the filler. I suppose you could custom make a metal plate replacement for the tailplate that has the correct holes it it, that might look alright and might save you filling the cavities.

Doesn't have to be exact, but the distance on the above J-S would be best.

Do you really want the stoptail? You could just lock the existing tailpiece that would save you doing anymore work and would look good as well.

whats the point of adding a TOM bridge is you dont use the stoptail?

I mean it introduces a new problem (radius doesnt match the 7.5" radius of the jag-stang) but i dont see what problems it solves?

yeh, thats what im confused about too?

surely the actual bridge and saddles on the JS are fine (once you do the tape mod at least) - the real problem people have is with the dynamic vabrato tailpiece.

but this can be locked down easily. Lgndkllr777, why exactly are you installing a TOM??

The tape on the posts is pointless as well, plus it hinders the guitar staying in tune if you use the vibrato unit.

Its worth checking other peoples set up recommendations before you start swapping hardware....honestly, its a waste of money.

Alright, so I managed to get the old bridge back on... im thinking of just taking it to a professional to get the bridge on... and when they ask wtf happened to the area where i drilled... im just gonna say thats how it was, since i got it used...

how much would it cost in labor to install?
