Jag Stang questions......

Hi guys, ok i bought another jag stang, 1996 made in japan in fiesta red

decided to takea few pics for the site etc and noticed big differences in the 2 jag stangs 😕

1st being the 1997 Sonic Blue one is heavier possibly thicker? and feels made of better materials even the bridge looks a better metal or something

2nd paint finishes, both have original paint work, my 1997 having never been played much at all etc its 100% perfect but the 1996 has a pretty bad finish to the paint

3rd pic guard, look at the one on the 1997 very shiny and in your face almost, the 1996 being very dull and bland

4th the fittings seem more together if that makes sense on the 1997 than on the 1996,

perhaps the finish issue is down to the previous owner? there could be fluctuations in quality from time to time. i agree with you about the pickguard. on all the jag-stangs i've seen, they have the more vivid pickguard like the sonic blue one has there. perhaps the other was replaced? or it could have been done like that from the factory. i've seen japanese jaguar pickguards (especially torts) vary from jaguar to jaguar of differing years.

the bridges look slightly different on that picture you've got. but i can't see them close enough. the red one has the bridge the wrong way round from what i would have it. also, the bridge on the sonic blue seems to have slightly bigger saddles. the red jag-stangs bridge doesn't have jaguar saddles on it, does it?

if you measure the thickness of the body, i think you should find they are the same

As for the pic guard i was told its not been replaced by the previous owner

Re the paint just dont seem that good a finish regardless off how it was kept, the finish just isnt the best

No measured them but they may be the same size n thinkness but the blue one is still so much heavier and the wood in each seems different, the red one being cheaper wood or less dense wood or something 😲

The top layer may have peeled off the FR's p/g. No idea if it would make it look blander like that, but I've heard of people saying that the top layer peeled off their J-S's p/g.

my blue jag has a heel date of oct 96, i may ge a pic of it sooner or later.

heel date? so this one was possibly made in 95?

could be. i would rather not take off the neck right now but trust me when itook it off about 6 weeks ago in st. lious i was suprised to find

oct. 96 stamped very clearly and just lil bit smaller than the vintage stuff right on the heal.

i honestly didn't know that they did that anymore. altho my av jaguar has it(i believe) i would guess that its a 95 or a really really early 96.

indeed i am, need a new car! didnt post it on here, if it sells it sells if it dont i'll keep it! I still want to know why its the same but so different lol, if i do keep it i gotta hunt out another one and compare the 3 lol

Yep m8 thats the one 😎 the other is the hum cancelling strat if i remember correctly

😕 Just bought the Jagstang from you on e-bay to which you are referring. My 14 year old son who is heavily into Nirvana has just spent his Christmas money on this axe. Your write up seems to indicate that its nothing special.

Hope he is not disappointed when it arrives!! Your various comments gave us confidence that this guitar was a good one. Is this not the case?

I think your son will be very happy with it, all the things that this guy is complaining about are BS, and merely cosmetic.

All guitars have their own personalities and are quite different, and this is especially true with Jag-stangs, Mustangs, Jaguars etc. Just do your research on how to set it up. They can be absolutly terrible if set up poorly, but a well set up stock Jag-stang is a great guitar.

Steve this guitar is great man, otherwise wouldnt be in my jag stang collection, the little niggles i state are due to differences between it and my blue one, (mint unplayed really, 10 outta 10) im very over critical, i also phoned fender and they told me the woods used can vary year to year and that is the only reason it seems to weigh different

If your not happy please say, i will gladly keep it and/or send you a different one but this one is as stated on the ebay ad, a genuine 1996 jag stang with a little ding etc, nothing to worry about, im just hunting for another 10/10 fiesta red for collection purposes only

Your son will love it, and like i say who ever buys it will be 100% happy with it as you will be when you receive it m8
