I never understood the whole "Popular = Idiotic" thing that's been going on in the last 10-15 years, but it really bugs me. I come from the school that if it sounds good, it is good, and that good is subjective.
I think people get confused between opinion and fact these days a bit too much.
Besides, without Buddy Holly, a LOT of musicians would possibly not have taken careers in music. It's like a forking tree how one generation of musicians influences the next.
Buddy Holly is not my cup of tea musically, but hey, if it were not for him, then some of my favorite bands might not have existed, nor would have bands that influenced even newer bands I like (though I don't like too many, if any "new" bands).
It also ties in with the original topic at hand too. The Jag-Stang is not a sucky guitar, like I said before, it's just sucky for people who can't appreciate/deal with/handle it's inherent "personality traits", which just means it's not for them, and that's true of all guitars or rock bands.
