Putting a buzzstop and a mustang bridge on a jag doesnt work.

I ordered a buzzstop last week. And while it was somewhere the atlantic i thought to myself, this isnt gona work with the mustang bridge cos the angle will be too sharp and the strings will just sit on the bridge.

"Lower the action!" i thought to myself, but alas when the buzzstop arrived today it didnt work.

"Oh well, back to the old jag bridge!" i exclaimed, but my only problem now is the grub screws working there way out.

Lock-tite, yes?

New problem. Jag bridge on, buzzstop on and everything set up nicely then my G and D strings sound funny. I look at the strings as they go under the buzzstop and shock horror they are sitting on the "little button" in the middle of the buzzstop (dont know what it does, i never use the trem)

how the hell do i solve this?

in my opinion, buzzstops are a very silly idea. you might as well do something like in this picture here, in which i wrapped the strings round the bridge. almost for a laugh:

Well, av been footering about all day and the buzzstop seems okay. Its made the strings less damped, reduced the noise from behind the bridge and allowed me to lower the action. Its made my jag play better.

But this problem is annoying. There is a hole in the buzzstop to accommodate the bloody button so there must be some solution.

Anyone?

i'm confused. why does the buzzstop not work with the stang bridge?

The buzzstop makes the string angle too steep for the stang bridge. So the strings sit on the bridge metal before the grooves. Also, the saddle heights are fixed.

The jag bridge has angle saddles so problem solved.

Can i ask what the little slide button is down at the trem? Also, can i remove it? cos i dont see how else the strings arent gona be sitting on it.

must be a pain re-stringing though, must take a while longer?

plus you can't use the vibrato unit, right?

i'm sure you could use it, just wouldnt change the pitch of the strings...

That's the trem lock button. Depress the trem down all the way, and then slide the button to the 'down' position so it is closer to the butt of the body. Basically means if you break a string, it doesnt throw your tuning out of whack.

Well, it limits your use of vibrato from the arm because you can't get any upwards travel on it. That's all i can think of.

I've found the buzzstop to be fine, none of the problems described above HOWEVER on my 94 Jag the hole for the trem lock is slightly too short so you can't actually engage the lock. I suspect Whizzo took their measurements from a vintage guitar.

On a related subject, i wrapped transpore tape around the bottom of my Jag's trem arm yesterday, and now it actually stays in! And yes, i have opend it up, tightened the claws and whatnot, but that didnt work either. I even recorded a little idea/song with the jag using the trem...anyone wana hear? 😛 Anyway, Jag's rule when you are in the mood for them 😀

On a completely relevant subject, i stuck too pieces of card either side of the trem lock and then screwed on the buzzstop so it sits higher up then re-strung my baby and....

Done away with the card and got gauge 9 strings and the jag sounds like a guitar.

Could it be that the only thing i needed to do to my jag was put 9's on it? Possibly. Do i care? No. I've had fun.
