Selling my Mustang

I have a 97 reissue Mustang, sonic blue, tortoise shell pickguard, new Mustang bridge on it, Dimarzio Super Distortion Humbucker in the bridge w/ hum ring, all white pickups, crome dome knobs. Looks nice and smooth. There are nicks here and there on it. Not too bad. The cutting job on the pickguard was done badly hence the hum ring. I like the look of the ring on there anyway though. The route job isnt perfect, we cut just enough room to fit the humbucker. I've been playing it for about a year and it sounds great. The Dimarzio SD sounds really good.

I bought it in 2004 I'm pretty sure, off Ebay. I got it for $500 off there luckily. I got a good deal.

How much do you think I could get for it now?

The only thing that is messed up really is the pickguard, which is not noticable because of the hum ring. Nothing is visible and if it works fine there shouldn't be a problem. The route job can be fixed easily. I know for a fact I can get more than 500$ for it. It is a 97 reissue. I can get definately more than 400, 500, 600 for it.

I don't know dude... yours sounds like it's pretty hacked up. I don't think it would go for that much.

have you ever seen an old jaguar or mustang on ebay that looks like crap but its completely original, and it sells for 2-4 grand? and then you see one that has been modded just slightly, new guard, maybe new pups, a refin is the most common, but the price drops to...... a grand, maybe 1,500.00.

basically thats what you just did, your is not vintage. but its definitly not original either. and the fact that its hone done, not all that great hurts it even more.

you might be able to get what you paid for it. you MIGHT be able to.

Well. I just kind of wanted to talk about it. I am not totally sure if I want to sell it, but if the price is right I will 😀 I just wanted to see what some people say.

well, no. sorry.

you got it off ebay 2 years ago for $500, guess what, if it was already modified you paid too much and if YOU were the one who modified it you've wrecked it's resale value by doing amateur mods without careful planning. i'm not ragging on you i'm just saying, Aug's probably right and you'll be lucky to get $400-ish for it. if you know what you can 'definately get' then don't bother asking more knowledgeable people for an estimate and then tell them they're wrong. a '97 re-issue mustang is hardly the holy grail of guitars, and considering yours has teh kurdtz i doubt anyone except a young nirvana fan or someone who needs a restoration project is going to want it... and both those types of people are going to be looking for CHEAP deals.

It's a common misconception that because you spent a bunch of money changing bits on your guitar that it'll put up the resale value, when in fact it's (usually) the opposite.
