Jag-Stang Project Guitar

Just purchased a Jag-Stang off ebay as a project guitar. It is in pretty rough shape and I might have paid a little much for it but, it should be fun. I am pretty excited. I even paid extra for overnight shipping so I could start working on it this weekend.

I used to own a Sonic Blue Jag-Stang back in 1996 but, I traded it in when I bought my 1972 Hummingbird Custom. I always regretted doing that.

The neck pickup is still stock. The bridge pickup has been replaced with a Dimarzio Dual Sound.

Any suggestions on the body? Should I strip it all down and repaint it or just fill and paint the damaged areas? Would I be better off purchasing a new body for it from Warmoth? Everything but the pickguard should be usable on the new body if I went that route.

My wife has suggested that if I have to repaint it, I should do it in Lake Placid Blue instead of Sonic Blue.

If you want this new guitar to be as new, I reckon you should strip it, and fill any bad dents/holes, like what looks to be just under the trem with that wood filler stuff and just sand it down to suit the rest of the body surface, and yeah, LPB sounds good 😀

I will have to look into purchasing new "Fender" and "Jag-Stang" stickers so I can paint the pegboard Lake Placid Blue also.

Don't refin the neck! You'd never find another Jag-stang decal. However, you should totally strip and refin the body. Shell pink gets my vote. You'd have the greatest J-S ever. Surf Green would be too close to Sonic Blue for it to be unique.

I dunno about shell pink but, if it was a better looking wood I would concider a Mary Kaye stain.

Another vote for Shell - the epitome of cool. Looks great on a Strat, superb on a Tele... the JS body cries out for this shade. 😛

Not convinced? In that case Surf or Seafoam Green! 😀

yeah... but I have always wanted to know what a jag-stang would look like if it was LPB with comp stripes, but shell pink gets my vote.

I am going with the Lake Placid Blue. Going to pick up the paint tomorrow. I have a friend who owns a body repair shop and is going to let me use his place and equipment to do it.

Cowbell has one applied on his custom. He may have gone through a US seller if that is where you are situated.

So if you wanna do the headstock I say go for it !!

It has to be done if you're spraying LPB, IMO.

I've got a friend with a sky blue MIM Telecaster, I didn't like it, it was too...I don't know, I just didn't like it.
