Looking for an amp

Okay... So before i was asking about a line 6, but I decided not to limit myself, I just want some opinions so that I can try out amps that have been suggested. Well to be clear...I play a CIJ Jaguar (all stock), and I play a range of music from Garage to Grunge to Rockabilly.

I'm looking for an amp that has a sharp clean and a thick overdrive which is more like a fuzz that a distortion, so just to make it sound... well fuzzy. I have no experience with amps whatsoever but I only have 600 AUD to spend and I plan to spend it wisely. Also the amp must have reverb ! Lots of it 😁:D:D.

I am open to all suggestions, please help me! 😀

I dont want to ruin your fun as it were, but id keep looking.

Try plugging into a few tube amps and see how they compare, dont rush into buying anything, its alot of money to spend so you want to make sure youre getting the right thing.

At the end of the day theres only you who has to like it and if you do buy it, but in my opinion there are better amps.

Yeah I decided not to buy it, I've decided that I want to just find a nice solid amp with a good sound and you know maybe get a few pedals to hook up to it or whatever but yeah I didnt wanna rush into buying anything today.

yeh just find an amp with a good clean that you LOVE, and then find a pedal that gives you the thick fuzzy overdrive.

TRy everything at the store - but just try and use a jaguar when you're demoing if you can, as they'e hard to find amps that they work well with!

fender blues jr or deluxe?

i dont know, probably for thick fuzz you would need a tube amp. i'd suggest those two that i said and a epi valve jr. and then buy a reverb pedal.

well, anyways, i tried the blues deluxe and it was very good distorted, it had that garage sound, dirty and fuzzy. but i didnt try the cleans on it.

Jellybelly hit the nail on the head. You can thicken it more using your neck pickup and another distortion behind it.

Do you mean a distortion or 'muff' foot pedal? or just any distortion...

I dunno how far 600 Aussie dollars will get you, but if you're getting a brand new amp I would guess that a fender blues junior + pedal might be a bit outside your budget. Blues Jr = 300 pounds-ish. What is the second hand market like there? You might be better off looking for a used valve amp.

Otherwise the Fender frontman is a pretty decent solid state amp, but not very powerful. It depends what you want it for really - gigs or bedroom practice, or a bit of both?

And muff = Big muff, type of "distortion" pedal that's halfway between fuzz and overdrive. Nice and meaty crunch, but keeps definition when playing chords etc. Rat pedals are similar sort of thing too, and well worth checking out.

if you're looking at solid state amps, you cant beat the Marshall Valvestate VS100R. sooo cheap 2nd hand and great sound.

3 channels, 3rd channel is huge fuzzy distortion sound. Channel 1 (clean) is ok, but Channel 2 (crunch) sounds amaing with the gain on 1 or 2..beaufiful clean sound. and yes it has seperate reverbs for both channels.

I prefer the clean on my marshall to that of my fender (though they're both solid state)

Hey thanks peoples, yeah I only really have 600 AUD, and I have read some reviews on the Marshall Valvestate VS100R and it looks sweet, and yeh cheap at 2nd hand..I might see if any shops have any in stock i can try out.

i've been looking at the bay and they have some good stuff, but I'm not going to buy any thing i haven't tried out and liked obviously.

dude, the VS100R is 10 years old - it'll be hard to find in the shops!

I only mentioned it cos it's a great amp, v loud and v v cheap!

if you cant try that, try other marshall valvestates, or even a roland cube 30. if this is your first amp i wouldnt go crazy trying to get a tube amp, just keep trying different ones till you find one you like the sound of 😀

yeah youre right its old as....yeah but i do want an amp that i can gig with, i'm not really that fussed, but when i said try one in a shop, theres a guitar swap shop near me and thats got good stuff in usually so yep.....

Try a peavey bandit if you can find one, thats got loads of thick gain, nice and loud with good cleans too.

A big muff sounds like the fuzz you want, like the other said, get a good basic clean then you can plug a big muff in and play (make sure its a USA version though!). Theyre very inexpensive pedals new.
