I fully respect that position, if most people can't hear the difference. But there are two counter points to this argument, a) There are a lot of full size humbuckers that don't have an equivalent single coil size version, and 😎 the second coil of a bucker is further forward than in a single coil size, and there is a slight difference in tone. I can hear the arguments now, that inch of space forward doesn't make a difference, but it does, for the very same reason the neck PU has a deeper tone compared to the bridge. Its closer to the middle of the string, where the lowest frequencies are in the strings vibration. Move your pickups even an inch forward along the length and the tone changes.
I am new here. I just really don't understand the whole 'keep it stock!!' argument. Gibson SGs are modified all the time, and used for everything from blues, indie, garage, and punk to classic rock and church music. Same with Strats and Teles. There are a lot of things you can do to a guitar to change the tone to suit one's style, why there is such an strong hatred toward those who want to make modifications? Even if you find it pointless, I see a lot of flaming that really isn't necessary.
I can understand a lot of people are trying to replicate Kurt's Jag, and this probably gets annoying. Personally I don't get the people who try to make a guitar like someone else's, but at least all of the mods to Kurt's were functional mods. Not like the insanity I see with those trying to replicate SRV's or EVH's guitars, hell they tear up the finish just to make it look like SRVs. The mods to Kurt's were purely functional, the TOM, dual HHs and third knob. Why the animosity?
